Kate and William are model modern royals – its sad if they send their kids away to school

The Prince and Princess of Wales have been praised time and time again for their modern approach to official royal duties and the series of modernisations they have already introduced since they took on their new roles.

Among a long list of examples is the way they are raising their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. As well as ensuring they have as much privacy as possible, they haven't chosen to send the youngsters away when they turn eight, as has been done for many generations.

This is expected to change as they grow older as it's believed that Prince George could be following in his father's footsteps and enrolling at Eton College in September 2026 when he turns 13 – after they were spotted touring the famous school earlier this year.

While nothing has been confirmed, sources have explained that this is one decision the Kate has reportedly been forced to "give in" on despite "arguing" about it with Prince William.

Speaking to InTouch, the source claimed: "Kate long disagreed with her husband about sending him away, even though it’s tradition. Kate thinks sending him to such a stuffy, upper-crust institution goes against all of their efforts to modernise the monarchy. Plus, she’ll miss George desperately. She and William argued about it for years, but he has finally won.”

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond agrees with the Princess of Wales that a move to a school like Eton goes against what the couple have worked so hard to achieve.

She told OK!: "Where to send your children to school divides many a married couple – particularly those who have been sent away to board themselves.

"If George is indeed to board one day at Eton, Kate and William will have shown they have bowed to royal – and aristocratic – tradition. I think that’s rather sad.

"They have been the model of a modern monarchy so far and I would like to see them continue as a tight family unit, with the children coming home each day after school.

"A possible compromise could be weekly boarding, or an ad hoc system that some schools now adopt. But perhaps they believe there are real benefits from children learning to be independent from a young age.

"Also, I suppose they must consider the idea that they could become King and Queen whilst their children are still of school age and their jobs will become even more full time than at present.

"Perhaps it is the practical solution. For me, though, it is unthinkable to have children and then send them away to be looked after by someone else."

The famous school charges an incredible £48,501 a year and was set up by King Henry VI in 1440. It counts royal alumni such as Prince William, Prince Harry, the Duke of Kent, as well as Samuel and Arthur Chatto.

Eton is famous for their incredible facilities as it has anything their students could possibly want. In terms of sports, there are approximately 40 football/rugby pitches, a 2km rowing lake, 19 cricket pitches and 50 tennis courts.

Another possible option for the young royal's schooling after he leaves Lambrook would be to tread in his mum's path and study at Marlborough College in Wiltshire.

This may be a desirable option for Kate and William as it is a co-educational school which would allow Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to all be educated together.

Marlborough college charges their students £39,930 a year and is widely considered one of the UK’s top boarding schools with their state-of-the-art sports facilities and grounds.

The historic school has produced many notable alumni, from Princess Eugenie to comedian Jack Whitehall and even Emerald Fennell – the Academy Award Winning screenwriter and actress who portrayed Queen Camilla in seasons three and four of Netflix's The Crown.

Alternatively, if Prince George and Prince Louis enrolled at Eton and the royal couple were keen to have all three of their children close to home in Berkshire, they could send Princess Charlotte to St Mary's School in Ascot, where Prince William's cousin, Lady Louise Windsor, studied.
