Saturday Kitchen fans make the same complaint as Scott Mills takes on challenge

Saturday Kitchen: Matt reveals show isn’t live

Saturday Kitchen viewers were fuming this morning after learning that the show wasn’t live.

Presenter Matt Tebbutt was joined in the BBC studio on Saturday (September 2) by chefs Julie Lin and Philip Khoury, along with Helen McGinn and special guest Scott Mills, in what appeared to be a regular live episode.

As the episode kicked off, the 49-year-old host spoke to BBC Radio 2 DJ Scott Mills about his ‘food heaven’ and ‘food hell’, as he would have to eat one of the dishes later in the show.

Mills, 50, explained how he loved burritos after he tried them for the first time with TV icon David Hasselhoff, before sharing he’s not a fan of lamb.

So James cooked the radio host a “fully loaded filthy burrito” and also slowly braised diced shoulder of lamb in fennel.

Normally, Saturday Kitchen viewers would vote on what meal the special guest gets to eat, but as this week’s episode is not live fans cannot have a say.

James said: “Now, we’re not live today, so what Scott gets to eat at the end of the show is down to chance.

“So stay tuned to find out what he gets and how we decide his fate. It’s brilliant, even though I say so myself. I had nothing to do with it. It’s absolutely brilliant isn’t it, crew?”

Following Matt’s revelation that the show is pre-recorded, viewers wasted no time in airing their frustrations on social media.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one Saturday Kitchen fan wrote: “Annoyingly not live again”, as a second asked: “Not live? Why? It really has lost something and I just don’t watch it as I did before. Sad but that intangible magic just isn’t there.”

A third asked: “Why not live again? Just doesn’t seem the same recorded… in the past if Matt wasn’t there a guest chef would stand in… keep it live, please…”, while another added: “Why isn’t the show live anymore? #SaturdayKitchen.”

Meanwhile, other Saturday Morning viewers didn’t seem to mind that the episode wasn’t broadcast live as they enjoyed the show anyway.

On X, one fan added: “Great line up, really need my #SaturdayKitchen fix this morning.”

Another stated: “Breakfast and #SaturdayKitchen on the TV”, as a third chimed in with: “Watching #Saturdaykitchen with my little dog Solstice who loves watching this show.”
