Brandi Carlile Named Record Store Day 2020 Ambassador
Record Store Day has named Brandi Carlile as the official ambassador of the 13th annual Record Store Day that will take place on April 18.
The singer revealed the news through a video filmed in her attic recording studio in Seattle alongside her longtime collaborators Phil and Tim Hanseroth.
“Independent record stores are home to me and the twins,” she wrote on Instagram. “When I started playing guitar and writing songs in my bedroom I would daydream about making albums that a person might stumble across by flipping through the alphabetically organized bins at the record store. They’d see The Cars, then Belinda Carlisle, then there I’d be…just waiting to be noticed by a proper music fan out for a day of discovery. Maybe if I had a cool enough shirt on or just the right font they’d pick up my album and take it home.”
“What independent record stores do is that they mine, archive, love, meticulously care for, and make available to you other people’s dreams,” Carlile added, as she held a vinyl copy of Joni Mitchell‘s Blue.
“Brandi’s career has woven through record stores from the beginning, and I can barely remember when there hasn’t been a Brandi Carlile record in their racks and on their charts,” Record Store Day co-founder Carrie Colliton said in a statement.
She added, “Record stores really are tastemakers—in all genres, across the country—and they’ve been shouting about Brandi and the Twins for years.”
The list of exclusive releases on the Record Store Day will be announced later.
Record Store Day, which was launched in 2008, has been celebrating independent record stores across the world. St. Vincent, Metallica, Dave Grohl, Jack White and Ozzy Osbourne were among the previous Record Store Day ambassadors.
