Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd was attacked by a rat when he was taking out the bins at home, he has revealed.

The David Platt actor opened up on the terrifying ordeal as he spoke on the podcast he hosts with his Corrie co-stars Colson Smith and Ben Price, called Sofa Cinema Club.

The 32 year old recalled the rodent attack on Sunday evening at the Manchester home he shares with girlfriend Hanni Treweek.

He said: "A rat attacked me. I was putting the bins out on Sunday night. I've told you before about the infestation of the rats in my area.

"It was night time. I had my big slippers on. I was pulling the wheelie bins out and as I'm dragging them up the street there must have been a rat in the bin.

"So the movement of me pulling the wheelie bins has disturbed him. He's gone to leap out of the bin and he's jumped on my f**king neck! Behind my neck!

"He sort of slithered down my body, and sort of rolled onto the floor. A great, fat, b******d rat. Massive. Slimy. He'd been in the bin!"

He continued: "He jumped, hit the neck, and might have hurt himself on the back of my neck because he rolled down my body for an eternity before he landed on the floor!

"I didn't know what it was at first, I thought someone was tapping me on the shoulder it was that big. It was terrifying!"

He concluded: "He ran off through someone's garden. The bin lid was open a bit because the bin bag didn't quite go in. I took all my clothes off and had to get a shower!"

Jack has played David Platt on the hit ITV soap for 20 years, but recently said he will move on from the cobbles if his character stops being given interesting storylines.

In 2018, the actor was involved in a harrowing male rape storyline, which the soap have confirmed will continue this year.

But Jack has admitted that he would think about leaving his long term job if it got too boring for his character.

When discussing if he could see himself exiting the soap, he said: "If something came up that was too good an opportunity to turn down, or if they stopped writing good stories for me, then I probably would leave.

"But at the minute they like having me there and I like being there," he continued to tell Daily Star.
