Jared Leto almost dies in horror climbing fall after safety rope frayed on rock

Jared Leto nearly died in a horror rock mountain climbing accident when his safety rope frayed as he dangled 600 feet in the air.

The 48-year-old rock legend was ascending up Nevada’s Red Rock when disaster struck and the star almost lost his life.

The Thirty Seconds To Mars frontman told fans he was scaling a rock face with pro climber Alex Honnold when his rope began to fray.

"Not to sound dramatic, but this is the day I nearly died," he began his Instagram post.

In the accompanying clip, Jared cried out “Holy f*****g s**t! Holy f**k!" as he held the damaged rope.

"Took a pretty good fall climbing with Alex Honnold at Red Rock.

“Looked up and within seconds the rope was being cut by the rock while I dangled some 600 ft in the air," he explained.

“I remember looking down at the ground below…”

The actor turned musician then described the flood of emotions that ensued immediately after the incident.

“It was a strange moment – less fear, more matter of fact, and slightly melancholy.

“The adrenaline came after, when I got back on the wall.”

Thankfully, they “made it through and lived to see another day,” Leto said.

Looking back at his death-defying moment, the star said “overall it was actually quite fun” and revealed the pair “continued climbing into the night.”

Along with the video, the Dallas Members Club actor shared two more pictures of him safe and well to reassure fans and another of the frayed climbing rope.

His climbing partner Honnold, the subject of Oscar-winning documentary Free Solo, often dices with death and climbs without ropes.

He scaled Yosemite’s El Capitan in the 2018 film.
