Our Yorkshire Farms Amanda Owen devastated as beloved sheepdog dies

Our Yorkshire Farm’s Amanda Owen has shared news of a sad loss at her family farm.

The shepherdess and mother-of-nine announced on social media that one of her much loved sheepdogs has passed away at the age of 15.

Amanda said: “It’s a week since we lost Bill sheepdog. He’s gone away but not forgotten, he lives on forever in our hearts.”

She also posted a stunning black and white portrait of the sheepdog, adding: “Thank you to super talented artist @MeganArtUK for this gorgeous portrait of him.”

Amanda, her husband Clive and their nine children are the stars of the Channel 5 show, which follows their life on one of the most remote farms in Britain as the Owens navigate their life as working shepherds and farmers.

Bill was not the family’s only dog as Amanda is often seen with their female sheepdog Kate by her side in the show.

The latest episode of the programme – which aired earlier this week – left fans shocked as Amanda and Clive faced problems when a blizzard hit the farm, leaving them surrounded by snowdrifts and left some of their animals in danger.

Thanks to quick thinking from the family and their sheepdogs, they managed to save their livestock, including some pregnant sheep, from the storm.

On Twitter, one fan expressed concern for dog Kate as she battled to help save the sheep, writing: “I felt so bad for Kate during the sheep hunt in deep snow. At one point she looked so forlorn. She loves to go, but I hope she gives the nod to the pups this next winter."

Amanda replied, mentioning their late sheepdog Bill, explaining: "Kate (& also Bill RIP) has the ability to be able to find buried sheep under the snow. She knows what I don’t. A good sheepdog makes all the difference."

"Ah god bless him. So sorry to hear that," replied the fan.

The episode also sees the family take advantage of the winter weather by making impromptu ice skates and skating across their frozen over lake.

The episode was almost entirely filmed by the Owen family, as it was recorded when winter Covid-19 lockdowns were still in place across the UK last year.

Our Yorkshire Farm airs every Tuesday at 9pm on Channel 5.
