Phillip Schofield still in line for top award as NTAs WONT pull him

NTAs: This Morning wins daytime television award

Phillip Schofield will remain in line for a top award at the National Television Awards 2023.

Express.co.uk can exclusively confirm NTA bosses will not be pulling the former This Morning host’s nomination.

The 61-year-old forms part of the longlist in the best TV presenter category.

His nod came just days before he left ITV and admitted to an affair with a younger, male colleague.

Phillip previously quit This Morning last weekend, amid rumours of a rift between himself and co-host Holly Willoughby.

The public will now decide who makes the NTAs shortlist in the coming days, with voting closing next week.

Phillip is currently up against Holly as well as This Morning favourites Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

When asked if the broadcaster will remain among the nominees, a National Television Awards spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “The National Television Awards is voted for by the public.

“The longlist is currently open for voting and closes on June 2, and it is the viewing public who will decide on the shortlisted nominees which will be announced in August.”

This category has been dominated by Ant and Dec for the past 21 years, as the presenting double act are the only presenters to have won the award in that period.

In the past, Holly and Phillip have attended the NTAs together and celebrated the numerous awards This Morning has won over the years.

Indeed, in 2016 they celebrated all night, arriving on air giddy and slightly worse for wear much to viewers’ delight.

However, their working relationship is no more, with Phillip leaving both the ITV programme and broadcaster.

Phillip said in his statement: “I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public, and most importantly of all to my family.

“I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife.”

In a further statement, he also announced that he had agreed to end his relationship with his talent agency, YMU.

The NTA winners will be announced at a star-studded event to be held on Tuesday, September 5.
