MMA star Conor McGregor had some ugly words for his potential next opponent.
The former UFC champ took to Twitter Monday to send a vile message to Justin Gaethje, who defeated Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 on Saturday. There’s speculation that Gaethje will take on McGregor next.
“Justin, there is no danger in a man that hugs legs, we all know,” McGregor, 31, wrote. “Try and dance around what the real threat is here all you want. I am going to f–king butcher you. Your teeth. I’m going to put them on a f–king necklace. Speak on my skills as a father? You are f–king dead.”
It appears the McGregor’s sudden hostility stems from a tweet Gaethje sent in 2019 that criticized the Irish welterweight’s character and parenting.
“You’re a tool,” Gaethje, 31, wrote in 2019. “You have lost everything already. You are a sh-t human, father and husband. F–k you.”
Evidently, McGregor never forgot about it.
Gaethje said he had been requesting a fight with McGregor for quite a while, but that McGregor would never sign a contract, according to TMZ Sports.
“I wrote him a message like f—king 7 months ago just trying to be his friend. I’ve tried every route,” he said, per TMZ Sports. “I’m trying reverse psychology. I’m trying to be his friend. I’m trying every f—king route that there is to draw this man out. And I can’t draw him out. And he’s calling out Frankie Edgar. So it’s a slap in the face to me, to all the lightweights, and to really the standard that we f—king do here.”
After defeating Ferguson Saturday, Gaethje also said he hopes to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the real lightweight title.
