‘I regret calling my twin babies Charlie & Lola as other mums laugh at me’
A mum has regrets after naming her twins after popular kids characters.
The parent called her little ones Charlie and Lola, two siblings drawn by writer and illustrator Lauren Child.
They feature in a popular series of books and in a CBeebies TV programme too.
The mum admits she was “on Tramadol” when she named her kids – and wants to change their monikers months later.
In a candid NetMums post, she wrote: "I needed some advice, I have 6 month old twins which I named Charlie (boy) and Lola."
"Don't get me wrong I love both the names but I feel like a made the wrong decision and I always get awkward reactions when people ask."
The mum continued: "I had doubts originally when I first had them as I had been on Tramadol for days and felt like I may have rushed the decision.
"I am due to go and register them soon and am feeling under pressure to make a decision by then.
"If I do change a name it will be from Lola to Lila, so only one letter different and not too confusing for anyone, including the baby.
"I am worried about them being laughed at because of the programme 'Charlie and Lola’.
“My partner thinks I'm being ridiculous but I'm the one who spends more time with other parents and children and I always dread people’s reaction when they ask their names."
The concerned parent asked for fellow mums “thoughts or opinions” – and thankfully, many were there to offer reassurance.
A commenter responded: “Other children will find fault or mickey take whatever your name, that's kids!
“If you're still happy with the names (I love them) then stick to your guns.
“If you find it difficult to introduce them, try swapping it around to Lola and Charlie so it's not exactly as per the programme.
“Quite frankly, in your shoes, I wouldn't give a fig what other people think.
“They're your children and if you like the names and you believe your children will as they grow up, it shouldn't matter what other people think.”
Another said: “I would keep them if you like them – sod what others think.
"Names come and go with TV/celeb popularity.”
And a third added: “They're all great names, maybe refer to them as Lola and Charlie? But it's definitely not too late to change your daughter’s name if you prefer Lila.”
