I’m 24 and she is 23. I trust her but my worry is constant.

Part of the problem is that my ex lied to me for a year about her drug-taking, which was a dealbreaker for me. I find it hard to trust anyone since then.

I know I shouldn’t paint everyone with the same brush, but it’s hard to believe someone won’t do it to me again.

Are there any techniques I could use to help me stay positive while we are apart?

DEIDRE SAYS: It’s not easy when you have had a previous unhappy experience of being lied to but you can change your mindset.

Make a list of your best times with your girlfriend – even from your short time together.

Read that every morning and remind yourself that you are the one she’s with and the one she loves, and that you’re the one she’s going to return to.
