Princess Anne has often been branded the hardest working royal. She has joined Queen Elizabeth II, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, on many royal outings over the years.

When Princess Anne was born she was third in line to the throne.

As her three brothers have all had children, she has fallen down to 14th in line of succession.

Still Princess Anne looks keen to represent the monarchy and regularly makes appearances on behalf of the Queen.

When out with the Queen, body language expert Judi James analysed their relationship.

“The bonds between these two women might not have been featured as publicly as the Queen’s relationship with her next in line Charles or even his son William,” she told Express.co.uk.

“This is probably because the crown always places emphasis on the line of succession and the continuity of that line, meaning the dynamic between Anne and her mother has received less of a public airing.

“The other reason for the slightly enigmatic air about the style of their relationship is that, historically, Anne has always been known as being closest to Prince Philip.”

The expert suggested Princess Anne is more similar in personality to her father, Prince Philip.

This may have helped her bring out a side of the Queen that is only seen when she is with Prince Philip.

“Princess Anne has always been both the closest and the most similar in terms of personality to her father Prince Philip,” Judi explained.

“Her low-key, unfussy, immensely solid role in the Queen’s public life makes their relationship look similar in many ways to that between the Queen and her husband.

“It could be that Anne’s similar behaviour traits and like-mindedness to her father are exactly what has forged such strong bonds with her mother as well.”

When Princess Anne and the Queen have stepped out together the expert suggested they get on well.

During one appearance, Princess Anne mimicked the body language of her father.

Judi claimed: “Their poses are typical in the way that it shows the relaxed closeness between the mother and daughter, but also how much those bonds are based on some similar body language traits to those between the Queen and Prince Philip.

“Anne stands tall, looking around with the kind of steely, puckered brow expression of her father while the Queen stands close, looking interested and amused.”

Her similarities to Prince Philip may allow royal fans to see a different side to the Queen.

The expert added that the Queen appears to show a relaxed side of her that is rarely seen when she is with Princess Anne.

Judi commented: “Like her father, Anne appears to make the Queen laugh and most poses between the two women suggest a shared sense of humour, bringing out a side of the Queen that we rarely get to glimpse.

“She had a similar twinkle in her eye to her father and clearly supplied the kind of hands-off and unfussy support that the Queen always prefers.”
