Undefeated Umar Nurmagomedov to join lightweight champion cousin Khabib on Tony Ferguson fight card at UFC 249 – The Sun
CONOR MCGREGOR will soon have two Nurmagomedov’s to worry about after UFC confirmed Khabib’s cousin Umar will soon debut inside the Octagon.
Umar will make his bow on the same night Khabib defends his lightweight title against Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 on April 18.
And the 24-year-old looks to be a chip off the old block with the bantamweight undefeated in his 12 pro MMA fights.
The Dagestani fighter is a familiar face to fight fans and has been a regular part of Khabib’s entourage throughout his UFC journey.
He usually travels with “The Eagle” to his fight camps with AKA's Javier Mendez.
Now he will be looking to forge his own career as he prepares to climb into the Octagon at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Khabib took to Instagram to congratulate his relative, writing: “You have a lot to prove.
“When I signed with the #UFC there were a lot of people who didn't believe in me, but my team and my people believed and supported me.
“Believing in Almighty and hard work will bring the result. You got everything for it, now act and prove that you deserve to be among the best athletes in the world.”
Umar maintained his perfect record at Gorilla Fighting Championship 20 in November with a first round triumph over Braian Gonzalez courtesy of a rear naked choke.
That was the fifth submission victory out of his twelve, with another coming through knockout and six via the judges.
He is expected to be enter UFC’s bantamweight division and will no doubt have his sights on Henry Cejudo's title.
