Google Chrome just revealed one of its most important updates ever and it’s coming soon

Google is constantly working to improve its Chrome web browser with new features and upgrades – making this hugely popular app faster, more feature-packed, and more secure. While these trickle out at a pretty regular basis, the Californian firm’s latest Chrome update could be one of the most important to date – there are a truckload of new features coming to your default browser.

The extra additions include warnings if you’re about to visit a website with known malware issues and much easier way check that your Chrome browser is safe and your stored passwords haven’t been compromised. Google is also making it more simple to manage all of its browsers settings with easier to understand controls.

If you’ve clicked on a website which has known security issues then Chrome will now alert you as soon as the site loads up.

The new Enhanced Safe Browsing mode gives you more proactive and tailored protection from phishing, malware and other web-based threats.

Once enabled, Chrome sets about proactively checking whether pages and downloads are dangerous by sending information about them to Google Safe Browsing. This should make you daily whizz around the web far more secure.

Google has introduced a new safety check in settings, allowing users to keep an eye on their browser and how secure it is. One of the best updates in this feature is the ability to see if your stored passwords have been compromised, and if so, how to fix them.

The update will also flag if Safe Browsing, Google’s technology to warn before you visit a dangerous site or download a harmful app or extension, is turned off. Finally, there’s a more simple way to see if the version of Chrome is up to date and you’ll also be warned if any malicious extensions are installed.


Google has redesigned its controls to make them easier to use and understand. This should make it simpler to manage cookies, including being able to block them being downloaded from. specific websites.

In Site Settings, Google has reorganised the controls into two distinct sections to make it easier to find the most sensitive website permissions: access to your location, camera or microphone, and notifications.

A new section also highlights the most recent permissions activity. At the top of Chrome settings, you’ll see “You and Google”, where you can find sync controls. These controls put you in charge of what data is shared with Google to store in your Google Account and made available across all your devices.

Because many people regularly delete their browsing history, Google has also moved that control, “Clear browsing data”, to the top of the Privacy & Security section.


Once Chrome is updated to the latest version you’ll start to see a new puzzle icon for your extensions on your toolbar.

Google says this is a neat way to tidy up your toolbar and gives you more control over what data extensions can access on sites you visit.

Instagram update addresses one of the social network’s worst problems

There are many great things about Instagram which has made it one of the most popular social networks in the world. From seeing the latest snaps of your favourite celebs to tuning into your BBFs next Story, these reasons why Instagram has over one billion users and is a household name around the world.

But there is one big problem that affects Instagram, as well as other leading social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.

And that is the issue with trolls – random strangers who target a social network user with spiteful, hateful messages.

There have been many high-profile instances of trolling, which invariably involves distressing sexist, homophobic, racist or transphobic messages being spread.

Just recently Arsenal legend Ian Wright highlighted how he had been sent a series of racist messages on Instagram.

Alongside it, the 56-year-old tweeted: “I know I’m not meant to look at them but these messages still hit me so hard man. This is a child!!! This kid has a direct line into me & is able to send this without any worry.”

The messages included a number of vile, reprehensible racist terms with one Instagram DM adding: “If I get corona I will cough in your face”.

After Wright tweeted about the Instagram messages earlier this week Irish police said a “male adult teenager” has been questioned.

The individual “presented themselves voluntarily” at a police station in Ireland and a file is now being prepared for the Irish Director of Public Prosecutions.

And amidst this latest high profile issue, Instagram has rolled out a new feature that will make it easier to moderate content on your account.

The latest update to Instagram has added a new feature which allows users to delete comments in bulk.

The iOS and Android app now has the functionality to delete up to 25 comments all at once.

The Instagram app also allows users to easily block or restrict multiple accounts at once.

The Facebook-owned social network is also working on a new feature that lets you pin positive comments to a thread, a post by The Next Web revealed.

So when you revisit a thread the first thing you’ll see is one of your favourite comments.

Instagram has also given users the ability to choose who can tag and mention you.

Changes to how managing comments work were revealed by Instagram in a post online.

And if you have unfortunately been the victim of trolling on any social network then the Met Police has advice on what to do.

In a post online they detailed what you need to know, including how to report it and whom to report it to.

The Met Police said: “If a person sends you threatening, abusive or offensive messages via Facebook, Twitter or any other social networking site, they could be committing an offence.

“The most relevant offences are ‘harassment’ and ‘malicious communications’. For harassment to be committed, there must have been a clear ‘course of conduct’. That is, two or more related occurrences. The messages do not necessarily have to be violent in nature, but would need to have caused some alarm or distress.

“If there has only been a single communication, it’s unlikely it would qualify as harassment, but could be considered a malicious communication. For such an offence to be committed, a message must be sent to another person, or sent via a public communications network, that is indecent, grossly offensive, obscene, threatening or menacing.”

Sky reveals huge news for customers and it’s something its rivals can’t match

With millions of people staying at home to stop the spread of the coronavirus, it’s hardly surprising that data usage on our smartphones has plummeted. Most handsets are likely hooked up to fixed-line broadband connections at home, meaning customers aren’t eating into monthly allowances as they normally would when commuting every day, visiting friends, taking trips.

Recent stats from Uswitch reveal that Brits are now sitting on a staggering 165 million gigabytes of unused mobile data paid-for with their monthly mobile phone bill, which is thought to be worth a staggering £165 million. Sadly, most networks don’t allow data to be carried over or banked for a later date – that means what isn’t used is simply lost.

However, one service that does offer the ability to bank data is now boasting just how much it has saved its customers. Sky Mobile has featured its Piggybank for a number of years which allows any data to be saved and retrieved at a later date. Or, if you don’t think you’ll be able to use it, Sky Mobile customers can swap the data for discounts and other perks.

The supplier says that due to the current lockdown its customers have saved over £36 million worth of data between March 23 and May 3, 2020.

More than 5.4 million GBs of data has been rolled into Sky Mobile Piggybanks, data which would have typically been lost with networks that don’t offer this service.

According to Uswitch, more than a third of consumers want their unused data to be rolled over to the following month, while one in five would like a refund on any unused data.

A generous one in ten would like to give their unused data to essential workers, and 8% want a monetary equivalent to be donated to charity.

Ru Bhihka, mobiles expert at, comments: “Locked-down consumers are sitting on a mountain of unused mobile data worth a staggering £165 million.

“We have mobile deals set up to accommodate browsing on the go – but since so many of us are homebound and relying on Wi-Fi to stay connected, we’re simply not burning through our data allowances in the same way.

“Many consumers would like to see this data rolled over to when they have more use for it, and it’s great to see some providers like Sky Mobile already doing that.”

Sky Mobile customers can head to and sign-in with their Sky iD to check the amount of unused data available. This is also where you can use the data for savings on brand-new smartphones, tablets or accessories to boost your kit.

Sky Store vouchers to spend on Buy & Keep, or movie rentals on your Sky Q box are also available. So, there’s no chance of running out of gadgets to play with, or things to watch in lockdown thanks to Piggybank.

EE customers warned about dangerous new scam that could cost you

EE customers should be on high alert about a new scam doing the rounds online. Cyber crooks are sending out emails claiming there is an unnamed issue with their monthly bill and that users need to enter their billing details to verify the information is accurate.

The subject line – as identified by researchers working for the Cofense Phishing Defense Centre (PDC) – is usually “View Bill – Error”. The lack of detail should probably raise a red flag with EE customers. The email vaguely talks about how EE is “working to get this fixed”. Customers are pushed to “view billing to make sure your account details are correct”.

But clicking on that link will direct users towards a fake login page designed to lift any details inputed into the fields. This will allow the cyber criminals to login to EE accounts. But worse than that, as the fraudulent forms ask for credit card details – the crooks are able to use your details to purchase a number of items online in your name behind your back.

The fake login pages supports the HTTPS protocol – displayed as the green padlock – within the URL, which is a clever tactic to give users false hope that anything they write in the form is being encrypted and safe from prying eyes.

However, the bad actors went to the trouble of obtaining SSL certificates for the domain to be able to legitimately display this HTTPS padlock symbol simply to gain users’ trust. According to the researchers investigating this scam, it has become much easier for site owners, including fraudsters, to obtain these certificates.

In fact, it’s this level of detail that makes this latest EE scam so worrying.

In the form where users are prompted to input their credit card information, cyber crooks have placed a small “You will not be charged” message in the top right-hand corner to reassure email recipients that it’s a legitimate site.

After the details have been put into the form, users will be automatically redirected to EE’s website. So users shouldn’t even be suspicious – unless they’re keeping a close eye on the URL – that anything has gone awry.

At the time of writing, the phishing page is still live and active, according to Cofense Phishing Defense Centre. So, if you’re on EE, you should be on the lookout for the emails as the cyber crooks are still actively using this technique to try to steal payment details.

EE has a dedicated webpage to help customers if they think they have been targeted by scams.

The firm’s advice states that if you receive a message requesting personal or financial information, such as personal security details, bank details or passwords, be aware that it could be a scam and therefore fraudulent. If you’ve received something that looks a bit suspicious don’t worry.

Receiving a suspicious text, email or voice call will not harm you in any way – harm can only come if you interact with it.

Unfortunately, but perhaps unsurprisingly, it’s the most rural communities that are being left behind. The Orkney Islands in Scotland has the highest proportion of properties that fall below this standard, followed by other rural areas in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Speaking about the news Holly Niblett, Head of Digital at said: “With the UK on lockdown, internet connectivity is more important than ever, whether it be for working from home or streaming movies and TV shows. While it is encouraging that broadband speed has improved in some parts of the country, there is still some way to go.

“Whilst the government recently pledged to increase broadband infrastructure spending, there are still hundreds of thousands of homes without decent broadband and the vast majority of these are in remote areas. With a significant number of people now working from home, lack of connectivity could be a serious cause for concern.”

Facebook security threat as over 200million user details sold for an absolute pittance

Facebook users need to be on guard after hackers sold 267million account details on the Dark Web. Sensitive details such as email addresses, phone numbers and users’ date of birth were all in the Facebook data cache. This kind of information is perfect for con artists looking to create a large scale phishing scam aimed at Facebook users.

And the treasure trove of Facebook user details were sold for an absolute pittance, with the Dark Web seller asking for just £500.

Thankfully, no passwords were listed in the data breach that was spotted by researchers at Cyble.

But if a scam was executed using these details and even a small percentage thought it was legitimate then it could end up being extremely costly to victims.

The stolen bank of Facebook details being sold by the ‘threat actor’ was outlined in a post online from Cyble.

In it they said: “Cyble researchers executed the sale and were able to download and verify the data. The impacted users will be able to verify this on Cyble’s data breach monitoring platform, shortly.

“At this stage, we are not aware of how the data got leaked at the first instance, it might be due to a leakage in third-party API or scrapping. Given the data contain sensitive details on the users, it might be used by cybercriminals for phishing and spamming.”

Advising Facebook users on how to stay safe, Cyble added: “Cyble recommends users to tighten their privacy settings on their Facebook profiles, and be cautious of unsolicited emails and text messages.

“We are currently indexing the data at our darkweb monitoring platform, and retail users can access it via”.

The number of stolen Facebook user details discovered is the same number of – mostly US – login records that were being sold online late last year.

At the time Facebook said in a statement: “We are looking into this, but believe it is likely information obtained before changes we made in the past few years to better protect people’s information.”

And speaking about the recent Cyble findings, a Facebook spokesperson told “We are looking into this issue, including the origin and age of the information contained in the database”.

The news comes after security researchers from Cyble also recently revealed that over half a million Zoom login details had been stolen by hackers.

These accounts were being sold on the Dark Web for less than a penny each and in some cases were being given away entirely for free.

These login details were gathered via credential stuffing attacks.

This is when bad actors gather login details that have been leaked in previous breaches and then use this information to access Zoom.

The successful credentials are then compiled into a list and sold onto hackers.

Cyble were able to purchase a large number of Zoom accounts in bulk in order to warn customers of the breach.

They purchased approximately 530,000 credentials at $0.0020 per account.

Stolen details included the victims’ email address, password, personal meeting URL and their HostKey.

Cyble said accounts tied to big name companies like Citibank and Chase were among this huge bulk of stolen login details for Zoom.

Some broadband users across the UK – including those who access the web via BT, Virgin and Sky – have just got some good news. According to a new report from, it appears a number of areas across Britain have seen a rapid boost to internet speeds over the past year with some homes now able to download files at a much quicker pace.

Coming top of the speed league was Hull in Yorkshire who saw the biggest improvements between 2018 and 2019.

This part of the UK witnessed bitrates rise by over 50Mbps which now gives Hull an average of 131Mbps.

At that rate, you’d be able to download a blockbuster HD movie in around five minutes.

Other areas that have seen things get better include Corby, Test Valley, Dartford plus Ards and North Down.

According to this latest research, it seems Camden has seen the biggest boost with speeds increasing by 21Mbps to an average of 77.7Mbps.

This was followed by Kensington and Chelsea with residents in this part of the capital seeing things get change by 18.9Mbps to 77.5Mbps.

Although this is good news for some, it appears not everyone has seen a boost a broadband connection.

Unfortunately, but perhaps unsurprisingly, it’s the most rural communities that are being left behind. “Working from home won’t generate significantly more traffic across our network than working in the office, even with more video calling and conferencing. So if more people need to work from home, our network will keep up with demand.”

Sending Memojis on WhatsApp for iOS users is pretty straightforward, but first time around you’ll have to create your own personal avatar. To start, open WhatsApp and then click on a Chat that you’d like to send a Memoji in.

Then, once you have opened a Chat window tap the bar which brings up the keyboard and lets you start writing a message.

From there look out for the smiley face emoji in the bottom left corner of the screen. Swipe from left-to-right on the keyboard to find the shortcut to the Memoji stickers. If you haven’t used the feature before, you’ll need to tap continue to customise your Memoji.

You will need a friend that is using a device with iOS 13 to create a Memoji with your likeness. From there on out you can get Memoji Stickers sent from this iPhone to your Android device.

Firstly, your friend will need to open WhatsApp on their iPhone and then head to the Chat area for your contact.

They will then need to start writing a message, click the smiley face emoji icon and go to the Memoji area listed above.

You can ask your friend to send you as many or as little Memojis you want.

Then, on your Android device click on each sticker and save these Memojis by selecting ‘Add to Favourites’.

The Memojis will then be saved in your WhatsApp stickers, ready for you to use.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to save these Memojis to your Android keyboard so you can send them in a regular SMS message.

It requires a bit of a workaround, but it means just because you’re an Android user you don’t have to miss out on the joys of Memojis.
