Power: Courtney Kemp reveals original idea for Tommy Egan that Joseph Sikora changed

Power first appeared on television screens in 2014 and followed James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick (played by Omari Hardwick) and his wife Tasha (Naturi Naughton) as they run a drugs business and nightclub Truth. Ghost ran both his businesses with his partner in crime Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora).

The pair had their ups and downs having fallen out a fair few times.

However, at the end, it was clear Tommy would always stand by Ghost as he was seen cradling his friend’s body after his son Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr) shot him.

With Ghost dead, Tommy decided to get out of New York and start again as he headed to the West Coast.

Tommy was a big hit with viewers as despite his tough exterior he often allowed himself to be vulnerable with the women he loved like LaKeisha (La La Anthony).

But the Tommy viewers have seen in Power wasn’t the Tommy creator Courtney had in mind.

Speaking in a Q&A on Instagram, she explained actor Joseph played a key role in changing the character of Tommy.

Asked if she could elaborate on her original idea for Tommy.

Replying to the fan, she explained: “Sure. My original idea for Tommy, he was a little more, a little less independent of Ghost.

“He was a much more under Ghost but Joe came in with a lot more swag I think than I had intended the character to have.

“Joe’s way was the right way. So the idea is to always try to listen and collaborate even if it’s not exactly as you said it.”

It wasn’t just the characters that fans were keen to get more of an insight on with one viewer later asking what her favourite episode was.

“305 probably,” she answered. “That’s the episode where Tommy kills Holly, there is an assassination attempt on Ghost, where they bury Holly, where Ghost saves the ring for Tommy.

“I just got chills, that’s probably one of my favourites.

“I love 206 which is called Why Here? and was written by Gary Lennon, that’s pretty amazing.”

“Yeah, I have a lot of favourites but none of them are ones that I wrote which is weird,” she added.

Also in the chat, Courtney opened up about why she decided Tariq would be the one to shoot Ghost.

For months fans speculated who shot Ghost with the list of suspects including Tommy and Tasha.

However, in the final episode it was revealed Tariq had pulled the trigger to stop his father from standing in the way of his future.

This referenced Ghost’s decision to shoot Breeze – who was never seen in the series – as he felt he was stopping him from being a successful businessman and growing their drugs enterprise.

Speaking about the decision, Courtney told fans: “Why did I write Tariq to be so unredeemable? That boy’s a monster, he committed patricide.

“He killed someone who beat him up, I’m confused.”

She continued: “It’s so interesting though, Tariq is not unredeemable to me.

“I think it’s very easy to make that – to go there. But if you don’t understand what he was thinking about, when Ghost had roughed up his mother, when Ghost had threatened him…

“Remember kids learn what we teach them, what had Tariq been taught? Who were Tariq’s parents?

“Tasha, murderer. Ghost, murderer. Tommy, murderer. Kanan, murderer. Those are his four parents. So, I don’t know, nobody had a problem taking a life when the life he took was Ray Ray’s (Marcus Callender), I just wanna point that out.”

Ore Oduba storms off Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow as he loses Play Your Cards Right

The first instalment of Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow kicked off this evening with a celebrity edition in which This Morning hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford played against Ore and Portia in the penultimate round of Play Your Cards Right. The couples were going head to head in order to make it to the final and play for the chance of winning £30,000 for charity. Unfortunately things didn’t go too well for Ore and Portia.

Kicking off the round, Alan began: “Eamonn and Ruth, the question comes to you first. In Bruce’s original Play Your Cards Right, they asked 100 women in their 30s, if someone offered your husband £1000 to stick a ferret down their trousers, would you let him do it?

“How many said yes they would let him do it?”

Eamonn and Ruth took some time to deliberate the answer before declaring: “55 percent.”

Ore and Portia then gave their guess, saying the answer would be “higher” than 55 percent.

Alan revealed the answer was 62 percent meaning Ore and Portia had the chance to start the round and decide to play.

The pair managed to work their way along the cards until the penultimate card. They guessed it would be lower than a Jack but it was revealed to be a Queen.

This meant Ruth and Eamonn were given the chance to take over the board and potentially win the round.

Realising they had missed out on the opportunity to go into the final round, Ore could be seen walking off set.

His wife Portia looked on disappointed as Eamonn and Ruth took over the game.

The This Morning couple won the round and made it through to the final with Ore and Portia congratulating them on their win.

Ruth and Eamonn went on to win the game overall and pocketed not only the £30,000 but an extra £3,000 they had won in previous rounds.

The presenters revealed the money would be going to The Alzheimer’s Society.

Coronation Street ‘blunder’ uncovered by fans in Oliver Battersby plot: ‘Nowhere near’

We will use your email address only for sending you newsletters. Please see our Privacy Notice for details of your data protection rights.

Oliver (played by Emmanuel and Jeremiah Cheetham) has been at the centre of a harrowing child illness storyline on Coronation Street over the past few months after displaying concerning signs something was wrong since the beginning of the year. Parents Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) have been by his side in hospital after the youngster was admitted following several uncontrollable seizures. During Wednesday’s instalment of the ITV soap, the pair were told the diagnosis of a mitochondrial disease means their son will have difficulty with cognitive function. However, some viewers became distracted from the drama on screen as they seemed to notice a set blunder.

Weatherfield General Hospital has been the focal point of many storylines on the cobbles-based soap and is a setting which will be used more regularly as Oliver’s plot continues.

Angie Bailey (Lorna Laidlaw) has also taken a position as a nurse in recent months, meaning she will be on hand to offer medical support to the family.

Of course, these scenes aren’t actually filmed in a hospital, but rather a study which cameras can workaround to get their shots.

However, producers work hard to ensure the mirage isn’t spoilt and do everything they can to make it seem the environment is in the real world.

Wednesday night’s episode did cause a bit of confusion though when it seemed reality had just slipped through as fans spotted a blunder.

The moment came as Leanne and Steve had just been given an update on their son’s condition and it was the time for an advertisement to play out.

To cut between the two scenes, a sign for Weatherfield General Hospital was displayed.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed something different about another bit of the background as they spotted what seemed to be a sign for studio two, signifying this was a set.

Taking to social media, viewers of the ITV soap couldn’t believe what they’d seen and commented on what they believed to be a blunder.

Coronation Street viewer

One clued up viewer wrote on Twitter: “Weatherfield General is nowhere near Studio 2, honest,” and they weren’t the only one.

A second added: “I love how you can tell that from the outside that it’s just a sign which reads Walford general hospital which is just put up outside the Corrie studios.”

Whilst a third commented on the micro-blogging site: “Weatherfield you mean?” pointing out the location error.

No matter the blurred lines between drama and reality, the coming weeks will see Oliver’s parents come to terms with their son’s illness.

Viewers have already seen the first signs of how the toddler will be affected by the mitochondrial disease diagnosis.

After suffering multiple seizures, it seems the child now has problems with his vision, which the doctors explained had come as a result of the distress caused to the brain.

Although Steve is trying to stay strong for his son, Leanne is currently unable to contemplate Oliver has a possible life-limiting illness.

At present, she thinks there could be hope the youngster will get better, but there is currently no cure.

Mitochondrial disease is the name given to a condition whereby the mitochondria in the cells of the body do not produce enough energy to enable everyday functions.

As time goes on, viewers and the characters will learn more about the debilitating illness and what it means with regards to an individual’s lifespan.

Executive Producer Iain MacLeod told press, including Express.co.uk: “Above all, we wanted to do justice to the stories of the many thousands of families who have to deal with diagnoses similar to Oliver’s, be it a mitochondrial disorder or another life-limiting condition.

“It is something that, as a society, we find difficult to talk about but which is all too common. The taboo around these illnesses can mean awareness is low, which means funding for research is low.”

Coronation Street continues tonight at 7:30pm on ITV.

Sleep warning: The breathing condition that can disrupt your sleep and affect your mood

Sleep issues aren’t restricted to insomnia. Falling asleep easily, and thinking you’ve had a full eight hours can still lead you to feel very tired throughout the day. What is going on?

You went to bed for 11pm, or around that time, and eight hours later you still feel shattered.

Upon waking you have a headache, and throughout the day you feel tired, find it hard to concentrate, and suffer from mood swings – sound familiar?

If so, you may be suffering from sleep apnoea. The NHS confirms that this condition occurs when your breathing stops and starts while you sleep.

  • How to get to sleep: The one thing to do during the day

Ask your partner if they’ve noticed you making gasping, snorting or choking noises throughout the night.

Sleep alone? Have you been waking up a lot during the night, or you’ve previously been told you’re a loud snorer?

The condition can be serious if not diagnosed and treated, so any concerns do need to be raised to your GP.

If the health professional suspects sleep apnoea, they may refer you to a specialist clinic for tests.

One such test monitors your breathing and heartbeat while you sleep.

It helps to diagnose sleep apnoea and provides data on how severe it is using the AHI score.

The AHI score can be classified as mild, moderate or severe. Specifically:

  • Mild – AHI of five to 14
  • Moderate – AHI of 15 to 30
  • Severe – AHI of over 30

Should sleep apnoea be mild or severe, the NHS will provide a free CPAP machine.

The NHS explained: “A CPAP machine gently pumps air into a mask you wear over your mouth or nose while you sleep.”

It helps people to get a better night’s sleep by preventing the airways from narrowing too much and improving your breathing.

Other treatment options include a gum shield-like device that holds your airways open when you sleep (named mandibular advancement device).

Surgery may be considered, such as removing large tonsils, to help your breathing.

  • How to sleep: The vitamin shown to help with sleep

To help manage symptoms of the condition, the NHS advises to not smoke, don’t drink too much alcohol before sleeping, and not to take sleeping pills – it can worsen sleep apnoea.

The national health body also encourages sufferers to lose weight (if overweight) and to sleep on your side..

To help keep you on your side throughout the night, buy a special pillow or bed wedge to keep you in position.

Without treatment, sleep apnoea can lead to high blood pressure and depression.

The tiredness felt throughout the day can make driving to the shops dangerous.

This is because tiredness can affect a person’s level of concentration and can increase the risk of having a car accident.

Moreover, those with untreated sleep apnoea have a higher chance of stroke.

And the sleep condition can also cause strain in a romantic relationship, as the other partner suffers from sleep deprivation too.

MH370 shock theory: How hijacker ‘numbed passengers with tea’ before taking over plane

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 went missing on March 8, 2014, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board. The flight path of the plane after it disappeared from civilian air traffic control radar was tracked using primary radar owned by the military and from communications it had with a satellite. The primary radar data implies a hijacking, because the plane took a U-turn and flew back in the opposite direction to where it had been headed.

It flew in zig zags fast along Flight Information Regions (FIRs) so it would not be disturbed, up the strait of Malacca towards the Andaman Islands.

All this implies that it was being flown manually by someone who has a deep understanding of how to fly a commercial airliner.

However, one of the biggest mysteries was how a hijacker would manage to take control of the entire plane without a distress signal being sent out.

Aviation engineer Ismail Hammad told Express.co.uk that he believes the passengers could have been subdued by spiking their tea.

He said: “I do not doubt that what happened was a collective thing that affected everyone who was on board the plane.

“The hijacker could control the passengers, the crew and security personnel in a joint and rapid action that unites them on different ages, nationalities and health conditions.

“And I think that the common factor that brings the people of southeast Asia together is their love to drink tea, especially Malaysian tea which is popular for all, so most probably [the hijacker] numbed them by drinking tea.

“This act might be done either by mixing the tea with some substance or adding it to the boiler of the hot water of the beverage.

“This act might be an individual act performed by a crew member or shared by others on the ground before takeoff.”

Mr Hammad added that he had personally dismissed other theories of how the aircraft’s crew and passengers were subdued including poisoning through the meals.

He pointed out that food is subject to taste and choice, but insisted everyone drinks tea.

He also addressed the possibility that the pilot, Zaharie Ahmad Shah, depressurised the cabin, while wearing an oxygen mask himself.

The engineer claimed that in this situation the co-pilot, Fariq Abdul Hamid, would have seen and intervened to stop him.

He added that “depressurising of the plane at a level of 35,000 feet would have caused it to be destroyed and transformed into something like a cigarette box stomped by feet, and fall over the territory or beaches of Malaysia”.

Without the Boeing 777-200ER’s black boxes including the cockpit voice recorder, it can never be known exactly what happened inside the plane during its final moments.

Nor can it be determined who exactly was responsible for the apparent hijack – the pilot, the co-pilot, another member of the crew, a passenger or a stowaway.

However, what the official investigation concluded was that, after the plane reached the Indian Ocean and disappeared from military radar, it then flew south over the sea.

Based on seven communications between MH370 and 3F1, a satellite owned by British satellite telecommunications company Inmarsat, it seems to have terminated its journey in the south Indian Ocean, west of Perth, Australia.

However, despite extensive search missions in the area, no wreckage has been found.

The lack of wreckage and no black boxes mean that it cannot be said conclusively what happened to the plane.

This means there are dozens of theories, none of which have been proven.

Money Heist season 5 theories: Tokyo recalling the heist to Nairobi’s son in big twist

We will use your email address only for sending you newsletters. Please see our Privacy Notice for details of your data protection rights.

Tokyo (played by Úrsula Corberó) was the first character to be introduced in Money Heist season one as she watched her boyfriend get shot by police after a heist went wrong. She was then recruited by The Professor (Álvaro Morte) to take part in a heist of the Royal Mint before meeting the rest of the robbers. Tokyo has played a main role in the Netflix series with a lot of the story being told from her point of view. Now, fans think they’ve worked out this means she is the only survivor of the final heist.

So far fans have seen Moscow (Paco Tous), Berlin (Pedro Alonso), Oslo (Roberto Garcia) and Nairobi (Alba Flores) killed during the heists.

Now viewers feel it’s just a matter of time before more of the robbers are targeted leaving Tokyo alone to reflect on what went wrong.

Speculating about the ending, Reddit user itseliza24 wrote: “One kinda popular theory, is that of Tokyo being the only one alive in the end.

“According to that theory, all characters will die on way or another, leaving Tokyo the only one able to tell the story.

“While watching a YouTube video, I came across a really interesting comment.

“Somebody added that Tokyo is telling the story to Nairobi’s son. I don’t know about you, but my mind is BLOWN.”

Responding to the theory, another fan guessed: “I would bet Tokyo is in jail and that’s where she’s telling the story from.

“Some of the others have to get away so there can be a season 6, 7, 8 etc.”

Another replied: “I actually think they all end up dying except Tokyo but like you said she’s telling the story from jail.”

Fans will remember Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri) using Nairobi’s son to try and manipulate the robber in the season three finale.

She paraded young Axel in front of the Bank of Spain to try and convince the robber to come out and confess.

As Nairobi watched his son from one of the windows of the bank, she was shot by a sniper.

While she survived the shooting, she later died when she was shot in the head by Gandia (José Manuel Poga) in season four.

Nairobi had become close to Tokyo during the heists and the pair were like sisters.

If no one survives the Bank of Spain heist other than Tokyo, could she head off to find Axel and take custody of him?

Or, another theory is that Tokyo could find herself and jail and be visited by Axel, who wants to know more about his mother.

It comes as fans have predicted Denver (Jaime Lorente), Helsinki (Darko Perić) and The Professor will be next to die when season five returns to Netflix.

They theorised: “After Nairobi was shot by Gandia, we saw her at a beautiful garden with a flower in her mouth.

  • Money Heist theory: Could Tokyo have saved Nairobi?

“A couple of seconds after that, we see Moscow, Oslo and Berlin, starring at her with a little smile on their faces.

“However, this is not the first time we see that scene. This was actually the starting scene in episode 5 of season 4 and Nairobi, Moscow, Oslo and Berlin, weren’t the only people sitting there.

“Denver, Helsinki and Professor were there as well. You probably understood what the theory is; Denver, Helsinki and Professor are the next characters to be killed.”

This would certainly support the theory that Tokyo could be the last one standing – but who is she talking to?

Money Heist seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix now.

Countryfile star stunned by never before seen moment on BBC show: ‘It’s a real treat’

Richard was on hand to present a segment on this evening’s edition of Countryfile, explaining to viewers why now was the perfect time for birds, in particular, to be mating. It was some light relief to the discussion of coronavirus earlier on in tonight’s episode of the popular BBC programme. However, out and about with his camera, the film-maker was stunned when he caught something which he had never seen before nor had been shown to viewers.

As well as talking about why beauty spots in the country should not be visited during the lockdown period, the show reflected on why this time is helping animals in the mating season.

The presenter told viewers: “When it comes to wildlife, if spring is in the air, you can be pretty sure love is in the air, too.

“And for the love birds I have been filming this week, they’re certainly not afraid to show it.”

Pulling up on the side of a countryside road, Richard then caught something rather spectacular on camera between two grey partridges.

The never before seen moment was made even more extraordinary as Richard explained it was very rare to see this type of bird out in the wild.

“They’re one of our farmland birds that have declined the most in the last 50 years,” the wildlife presenter told viewers.

He added: “So, it’s a real treat to find them just by the side of the road,” before stating why the numbers were depleting.

“Dwindling habitat and a lack of food for chicks pushed the grey partridge to the brink of extinction just a decade ago.”

However, things are looking up for the species as Richard continued: “But in places, numbers are beginning to rise.

“And I presume this pair will be a male and a female. It’s springtime and they’ll be choosing a mate and somewhere, settling down to make a nest.

“In the winter months, they will roam around as a flock, but now, they’ll just settle down with their breeding partners. “

Just like that, the Countryfile star was stunned as he then witnessed the pair of birds in the midst of mating.

Emmerdale spoilers: Belle Dingle betrays Jamie Tate after affair exposed?

We will use your email address only for sending you newsletters. Please see our Privacy Notice for details of your data protection rights.

Emmerdale viewers have seen Belle Dingle (played by Eden Taylor-Draper) fall for Jamie (Alexander Lincoln) in recent months despite the fact he reconciled with wife Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale). The pair did suffer a blip after Jamie told fellow partner at the vets, Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt,  to think about letting Belle go amid the surgery’s financial difficulties. Now, with there sure not to be an easy road ahead for Belle and Jamie, will the former end up going to work for Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) in a new twist?

Never miss a royal update again by signing up to the Daily Express Royal Family newsletter

Late last year, Andrea’s one-night stand with Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) was exposed, leaving Jamie devastated.

He decided to leave his marriage with Andrea behind, taking their young daughter Millie (Willow Bell) away with him.

As he tried to get over Andrea, there was soon new romance on the horizon as he fell for his then colleague, Belle.

The pair shared the night together on the evening of Graham’s murder but Jamie soon decided to give another go of things with Andrea.

He settled back into domestic bliss with Andrea and Millie but his feelings for Belle failed to leave him and he was left unsure what to do.

When Jamie’s colleague, Paddy, explained the vet practice needed to think of a way to cut costs, he suggested they let Belle go.

Belle was livid when she realised Jamie was more than likely behind the idea but was unable to reveal to Paddy what was going on.

However, with Paddy unaware of their secret romance, Belle reluctantly accepted being sacked but could she end up in a new rivalry with a familiar face?

Express.co.uk spoke to Philip Landau, an employment lawyer and founder member of specialist employment law firm Landau Law about what Belle might end up doing next.

Despite Jamie’s efforts to play down his feelings for Belle, their affair has continued and earlier this month, Andrea discovered the truth.

She is clearly silently plotting her next move and one of those ideas could well be her revealing to Paddy the truth about Jamie and Belle.

If Paddy was to find out, it’s possible Jamie could end up in trouble as he did not disclose the truth about his romance with Belle.

Phillip told Express.co.uk: “If Paddy discovers Jamie’s real motives then he would likely be justified in starting disciplinary proceedings against Jamie.

Naomi Canning (played by Morgana O’Reilly) is set to return to Ramsey Street soon, however, Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) cannot help but get involved in situations that don’t involve him. After noticing something strange between Naomi and Pierce (Timothy Robards), he will delve deeper into the man’s past and he may be in trouble when Paul finds out who he really is on Neighbours.

Fans will be delighted to hear that Naomi is back on the Channel 5 soap in coming weeks to try and help her mum Sheila (Colette Mann) who has been struggling since husband Gary (Damien Richardson) was killed.

Back in March fans were horrified when, whilst trying to save Bea Nilsson (Bonnie Anderson) and Harlow Robinson (Jemma Donovan) from a mineshaft on Pierce’s island, Gary was wounded.

Evil Finn Kelly (Rob Mills) intervened and fatally shot Gary with a bow and arrow.

Sheila has been struggling ever since, and with Naomi on her way back to the street, surely the mother can have a moment to respite from her grief.

Sheila’s grandson Kyle (Chris Milligan) thought bringing Naomi back was harmless at first because of how much he was worried about his grandma.

Despite Sheila being delighted to see Naomi at first, she will get annoyed when she realises her daughter’s true reasons for coming back.

There is never a peaceful moment when Paul is around and when his ex-fiance Naomi returns, it will be revealed she has shared a surprising romance with Pierce in the past.

She rejected him when Pierce fell in love, but he could just be the one that got away.

In the coming weeks, Naomi will make her intentions clear after accidentally blurting out that she still has feelings for Pierce – what does this mean for his marriage with Chloe Brennan (April Rose Pengilly)?

Worrying she has said too much, Naomi will promise that Pierce has nothing to worry about and she has no intention of messing things up.

But nothing stays a secret in Erinsborough, and as Paul delves into Pierce’s past he will realise what happened between him and Naomi.

Not only this, but he will also quickly tell Chloe exactly what could be happening behind her back.

Paul will suggest to Chloe that the two seem to be getting on very well – how will she react?

Chloe will point out they were old friends but Paul will mix the pot, adding: “Except it was a bit more than that, wasn’t it? Word has it that Pierce chased her pretty hard – bordering on infatuation.

“It’s odd, isn’t it, though? Why would they keep it a secret?”

Was it just an unrequited love though, or is there a lot more to the romance?

Whatever it is, fans can be sure Paul will be the one to uncover it, but could there be a much darker side to the story?

There is more trouble on the horizon though when Paul’s wife Teresa (Rebekah Elmaloglou) starts getting uncomfortable with just how close her husband is getting to Naomi.

As viewers know, when Naomi first dropped onto Ramsey Street, she revealed how much she wanted to have an affair with Paul.

Both being as determined as the other, the relationship blossomed and it ended in them getting engaged.

It quickly became apparent that the two were not compatible, but do they have some unfinished business?

Neighbours airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK).
