Coronation Street has not been easy viewing when it comes to the abusive relationship between Geoff Metcalfe’s (Ian Bartholomew) and Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King).
Geoff has been displaying appalling behaviour towards his wife for some time, with his mistreatment close to being exposed in the coming episodes.
When a suspicious Alya Nazir receives a call from Gail Rodwell (Helen Worth) telling her that her grandmother was upset, Alya demands answers from Geoff.
However he brushes her off dismissively leading her to confront Yasmeen herself, and push for the truth.
For months Geoff has had a sinister hold on his wife, whom he has been married to for all but a year.
Soon after the pair tied the knot, he began to reveal a more ominous side of his personality which has culminated in some terrifying scenes.
Viewers have seen Geoff manipulate his wife and emotionally abuse her, gaslight her and control her movements, money and who she spends time with.
Recent episodes have shown Geoff installing cameras throughout the home in a bid to keep cunning tabs on his wife’s every move.
The unhinged magician also locked a claustrophobic Yasmeen in a coffin-like box under the pretence of practicing a trick, before abandoning her to go to the pub.
However the worst of his behaviour is yet to come with Geoff set to commit a vile act in the abuse of his wife when she doesn’t have dinner prepared in time – and it involves her beloved chickens.
While it seems the truth may be about to come out, actress Shelley this week admitted things were only ‘going to get a lot worse’ for her character, while appearing on Loose Women.
