Jason Manford wants to reboot classic gameshow You Bet! after his success on ITV's Starstruck
JUST when you thought there weren’t enough Nineties TV reboots on our screens, Jason Manford wants to bring back You Bet!
The funnyman was a judge on Starstruck, the revamped Stars In Their Eyes which aired on ITV recently, so he’s clearly got the taste for reviving retro series.
And he’s got his eye on a brand new version of cult gameshow You Bet! because he feels it’s about time that “real people” with interesting skills are given some airtime, rather than celebrities always hogging the limelight.
In an exclusive chat, Jason says: “I’d love to bring back You Bet! because I like shows with real people in them.
“Celebrities have had it good for too long. They’ve already got a good life and they get nice things, so I think get real people on the telly who have a real skill or who can do something fun.”
You Bet! was originally hosted by Jason’s TV idol Bruce Forsyth and ran from 1988 to 1997 with Matthew Kelly and Darren Day also presenting.

Starstruck’s Jason Manford told off for slamming Prince Harry on the show
The show involved members of the public with unique skills taking on challenges and stunts which the star panel and studio audience had to predict — by placing a bet on whether or not they would be able to complete them.
Jason adds: “It’s a great way of celebrating nerds and just having a bit of fun with it.”
The Mancunian is currently on his Like Me stand-up tour of the UK and you can get tickets from JasonManford.com.
And the comic says that once the tour is finished, he’ll be focusing on a second series of Starstruck which he’s already signed up for — and hopes that his co-stars Sheridan Smith, Adam Lambert, Beverley Knight and host Olly Murs follow suit.

He adds: “I’ve signed up and I’m happy to do it. I don’t know what’s happening with the others. It’s down to schedules, I know Sheridan is massively busy, Beverley finishes in time to do the show and Adam is in America.
“I’m sure Olly would be up for it as he loves it. The ideal situation is that you’re all on board.”
And if he does get You Bet! off the ground, it sounds like he’s got three celebrity pals lined up to join the panel.
UK Jubilee tour by Buss
SHE was made a dame by The Queen four years ago – now Darcey Bussell is to repay the honour.
The former Strictly Come Dancing judge and top ballerina is about to make a show for More4 airing around the time of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Darcey Bussell’s Royal Roadtrip sees her travel up and down the country, retracing the steps of the sovereign on the occasions she visited the four corners of the United Kingdom. The show will feature some of the Queen’s most-loved destinations during her 70 years on the throne.
It’s just one of several programmes being shown on Channel 4 and its spin-off services around the jubilee.
Another is a new three-part series called The Real Windsors, looking at the popularity of the monarchy and its resilience as it embraces change.
‘Hardest season’
MILLIE BOBBY BROWN admits she found it tough shooting the fourth series of Stranger Things, which premieres next month.
She said: “This has been the hardest season I’ve filmed, and there have been some of the scariest things I’ve ever seen as a human, which you guys will get to see for sure.”
Done up to the nines
IT’S a big thumbs up for Inside Number 9 – and it looks like stars Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith can’t wait for their first adventure.
The dark comedy show returns tomorrow to BBC2 at 10pm and iPlayer with a six-part series, beginning with Steve and Reece joining a reunion of university pals afloat on a remote lake.
The Inside Number 9 line-up includes their old League Of Gentlemen chum Mark Gatiss as well as guest star Diane Morgan.
The thief, his wife and Karl
FANS of Karl Pilkington should keep their eyes peeled during the airing of this week’s The Thief, His Wife And The Canoe.
It tells the story of conman John Darwin, played by Eddie Marsan, who tried to fake his own death in a canoe to con insurers.
Though it seems an unlikely show for Karl to appear in – particularly as he plays a straight role – he says he doesn’t feel too out of place as it is a dark comedy.
The show started on Sunday and continues for the next three nights on ITV, and is also available on ITV Hub.
The star of The Ricky Gervais Show and An Idiot Abroad also revealed he had to perform a Zoom audition to land the part of policeman Detective Constable Phil Bayley.
Karl said: “I didn’t think I’d hear back, but the very next day I was offered the part. I was excited and chuffed, but absolutely bricking it at the same time.
“I did all my scenes with Eddie and he is brilliant. I hadn’t met him until the day of filming, but he put me at ease straight away.

“He made it a really enjoyable experience, which means I am more open to having a go at acting again.
“So if you get sick of seeing my face on the telly, it’ll all be Eddie’s fault.”
