Michael Barrymore says he wants a new police force on Stuart Lubbock case

Michael Barrymore appeared on Good Morning Britain to chat to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid today about the death of Stuart Lubbock .

Lubbock’s mysterious death was recently re-examined in the Channel 4 documentary Barrymore: The Body in the Pool.

The 31-year-old was found dead in the swimming pool of Barrymore in Essex in 2001.

At the time, Emergency services in Essex received a call saying: “A fella has drowned in the pool We have got him out.

“There’s a party going on and someone has just gone out and found him. I think the geezer’s dead mate.”

Essex police have now admitted that “crime scene mistakes” were made during the investigation, which remains open to this day.

Barrymore told Piers and Susanna that he wanted a new police force on the case today.

He told the pair that he'd been through "20 years of hell" over the case.

Barrymore said: "Honestly wish I had something to offer police.

"I'm happy to talk to police, I have nothing to hide."

He added: "It makes me feel rotten police coming for me again."

Barrymore then said he wanted a new police force on the case.

Giving a statement to GMB, Essex Police force said: "Stuart Lubbock was a young father and much-loved son who remains at the heart of the case.

"His family want answers and we will continue to do all we can to bring those responsible to justice.

"On 31 March 2001, nine people attended a party at Michael Barrymore's house. One of them, Stuart, ended up being violently sexually assaulted at that party."

The statement continued: "Someone at the party was responsible for what happened. Someone knows what happened.

"Other people arrived at the scene in the hours after Stuart's death. Individuals at the party might have told others what happened.

"we would urge people who do have information to come forward. 19 years is a long time, loyalties change and it's never too late to do the right thing."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
