The Chase’s Mark Labbett erupts in fury as he slams ‘best player ever’ on show

The Chase 's Mark "The Beast" Labbett erupted on today's show when one contestant was described as the "best player ever" by another guest.

Music buff Lucy stepped up to the plate, racking up an impressive £6,000 in the cash builder round.

When Chaser Mark made an offer in the high thousands, another contestant – Karen – encouraged Lucy to go for it.

She announced: "You're the best player I've ever seen!"

Lucy looked flattered by the compliment, but Mark cruelly insisted: "The best player you've ever seen?

"She's probably not the best player here today. Good players get 10, not six."

Luckily, Lucy took the snide comments in her stride and managed to make it through to the final with £6,000 in her pocket.

When it was Karen's turn to face The Beast, she managed to earn an impressive £7,000 in the cash builder round.

Scoffing, Mark commented: "Well Lucy – the best player you’ve ever seen – has scored six, and you scored seven, so what does that make you?"

The Beast offered a whopping £79,000 for the high offer and £7,000 as the middle-ground sum.

Watching on from the sidelines, Lucy announced: "Seeing as you’re the best player you’ve ever seen you could do the £7,000.

"You’re better than you think you are!"

Unfortunately, Karen was no match for brainiac The Beast, and she was booted out of the competition ahead of the final.

Lucy and Martin were left behind but sadly bombed in the final round, getting just 10 questions right in two minutes.

Fuming, Mark berated the twosome for getting questions wrong – blaming Karen's "best player" comment for their loss.

He raged: "You had to listen to the question for the clues in there, but famous last words.

"I blame Karen! she gave you a false sense of confidence. So I wanted to destroy you."

The Chase airs on weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
