Titane: Who stars in film and what is it about?

HORROR fans have been left suitably shocked by new drama Titane, which is considered one of the most controversial films of the year.

The new movie includes a barrage of sex, violence, and pounding music and has already caused a frenzy at Cannes Film Festival. Here’s all you need to know.

Who stars in Titane?

Titane is directed by director Julia Ducournau and features a talented cast from her native France.

Agathe Rousselle

Newcomer Agathe Rouselle is a breakout star of the film and plays led character Alexia.

According to IMdb, she has only previously starred in one short film named Loving – directed by Thibaut Buccellato.

Speaking to Vouge ahead of Titane’s release, she said: “I gave my body to Julia Ducournau, I trusted her blindly.”

Vincent Lindon

Vincent Lindon is a French actor from Boulogne-Billancourt, Hauts-de-Seine, France.

He is best known for his roles in Anything for Her (2008) and in the The Measure of a Man (2015).

His performance in the latter earnt him the award for Best Actor at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and the Cesar Awards a year later.

Garance Marillier

Garance Marillier is a 23 year-old French actress from Paris, France.

Since her acting debut in 2011, she has appeared in a number of films by director Julia Ducournau, including her lead role in the 2016 horror drama Raw.

The film tells the story of a veterinary student who acquires a taste for human flesh.

What is Titane about?

Titane tells the story of led character Alexia who has a titanium plate in her skull acquired in a car crash as a youngster.

Carrying a huge scar on the side of her head, she works as a hyper-sexualised mechanic who controversially has sex with cars.

As the film progresses, it transpires that she is a murderous female killer who seemingly takes the lives of her victims without care.

As she deals with her crimes and her identity, she later pretends to be a boy and the son of a fireman despite being pregnant by a vintage Cadillac.

Has Titane won any awards?

Despite, its controversial content, Titane won the top prize at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.

As a result, Julie Ducournau became only only the second woman to take home the prize for the movie – believed to be one of the wildest, sexiest and most violent films ever shown at the Cannes film festival.

The announcement was revealed early at the closing ceremony in an embarrassing slip-up by jury president Spike Lee.

Lee, the first black man to lead the jury, read out the winner at the very start of the prize section, rather than introducing the first award of the night for best actor.
