Dan Walker and Sally Nugent presented BBC Breakfast on Tuesday morning and welcomed Conservative MP Dominic Raab onto the programme. Nugent grilled Raab about a number of issues, however many viewers claimed the interview was “pointless”, accusing the politician of not properly answering her questions. Upon watching the interview, BBC viewers swiftly took to Twitter to criticise Raab.
Nugent questioned Raab about why the Prime Minister Boris Johnson was pictured on Monday not wearing a mask in a hospital.
But, Raab quickly came to the Prime Minister’s defence, insisting he was following “protocols and procedures” at the hospital.
Nugent said: “We’ve talked a fair bit haven’t we about the Prime Minister Boris Johnson and that hospital visit yesterday?
“I’m just going to share some images now from the hospital yesterday, he was at Hexham General Hospital not wearing a mask.
“Everybody else we can see in the image at the moment is wearing a mask. What type of message do you think that sends out?” she asked.
Raab replied: “Well, I know the Prime Minister took the advice on the clinical setting that he was in and followed the protocols and procedures that were applied there and that’s what everyone should do.”
However, BBC Breakfast viewers made it clear they were unhappy with the way Raab was answering the questions, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts.
@Imtherealanon said: “Another pointless interview with a politician on the telly. A complete waste of time. #BBCBreakfast.”
@CJrpeake commented: “Turned off Mr Raab, pointless interview.will come back in 10. #bbcbreakfast @BBCBreakfast.”
“Absolutely chuffing waste of time this interview – waffling non answers from Raab #bbcbreakfast,” @YaphamRoad remarked.
@JohnHuyton added: “This was a ridiculous interview and pointless.”
“@BBCBreakfast absolutely disgusting listening to Dominic Raab defending the PM over non mask wearing in a hospital. It is undefendable. Masks should be worn in hospitals full stop. He’s an embarrassment as a PM,” @Russell59008030 fumed.
