Hero US army vet turned cop killed along with three civilians in shooting at convenience store – The Sun

FOUR people including a police officer were shot dead by a gunman yesterday in Missouri.

The shooting took place late last night at the Kum and Go store near the East Chestnut Expressway in Springfield, with the gunman reported to have taken his own life.

Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams named the fatally shot officer as Christopher Walsh, with Officer Josiah Overton sustaining injuries.

Three civilians were found dead inside the store, as well as the shooter.

Officer Christopher Williams had been with the force for three-and-a-half years and was also a US Army veteran.

Lt. Chad McIntyre of the Springfield Police Department said cops responded to the active situation following numerous calls around 11.30 pm Sunday.

McIntryre continued that as of 2 am the scene was secure.

Police Chief Paul Williams said it was "too early" to elaborate on how the department was handling the news.
