A shepherd’s pie is essentially a casserole with a layer of cooked meat and vegetables, topped with mashed potatoes, and baked in the oven until the mashed potatoes are well browned.<\/p>\n

When you dig in you get a spoonful of mashed potatoes, some crispy bits, meat, and vegetables all in one bite – it\u2019s pure comfort food.<\/p>\n

Chef Anthony Worrell Thompson has shared his shepherd’s pie recipe on BBC Food claiming that it\u2019s easy and can be prepped in \u201cless than 30 minutes\u201d.<\/p>\n

The description reads: \u201cMake this easy shepherd’s pie recipe for a wintry evening \u2013 it’s comfort food at its best.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis one has a secret ingredient for extra flavour. Don’t worry about making it look fancy, the peaks and ridges on the mash just add to the appeal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ingredients<\/h3>\n

For the filling <\/strong><\/p>\n

25g vegetable oil or beef dripping<\/p>\n

One large onion, finely chopped<\/p>\n

Two tablespoons olive oil<\/p>\n

500g lamb mince<\/p>\n

One tablespoon plain flour<\/p>\n

Two bay leaves<\/p>\n

Two fish time sprigs<\/p>\n

One anchovy, finely chopped<\/p>\n

400g tinned chopped tomatoes<\/p>\n

450ml chicken, beef or lamb stock<\/p>\n

Two tablespoons Worcestershire sauce<\/p>\n

Salt and ground black pepper<\/p>\n

For the mash <\/strong><\/p>\n

700g potatoes, peeled and cut into halves or quarters<\/p>\n

55ml milk<\/p>\n

65g butter<\/p>\n

One egg<\/p>\n

Salt and black ground pepper<\/p>\n
