<\/p>\nBrendan O\u2019Carroll reckons Mrs Brown\u2019s Boys is a hit because you don\u2019t have to be brainy to enjoy it.<\/p>\n
The comedian makes sure the show is easy viewing for people so they can relax and have a laugh. Critics often slate it but he isn\u2019t bothered about what they think so long as viewers are happy.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cMrs Brown\u2019s Boys looks back to that late 80s and 90s comedy where you don\u2019t have to worry about it, you just sit down and let it come at you, you don\u2019t have to try and figure it out, you don\u2019t have to have a university degree to understand it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just gags and it\u2019s let\u2019s sit down on Christmas Day, whatever else happens, let\u2019s sit down and just have a laugh.\u201dBrendan also thinks the people watch because they need a giggle during tough times. <\/p>\n

He added: \u201cSince 2008 the world hasn\u2019t had a break. We\u2019ve had all sorts of challenges. \u201cWe\u2019ve had a pandemic, we have had wars, all sorts of worries and it just gets to the stage where people get unsure, they get nostalgic.\u201c<\/p>\n
They go, \u2018Oh do you remember before, all this was lovely, that was lovely, the summers were longer and Christmas was brighter\u2019.<\/p>\n

The show is back for its annual festive special on Christmas Day at 10.45pm on BBC One. <\/p>\n
