Freddie Flintoff bravely returns to cricket after horror injuries from crash

Freddie Flintoff smiled bravely as he was pictured returning to the sport he loves, cricket, after suffering severe injuries in a 130mph car crash.

The retired international cricketer hasn’t been seen in public until recently, after escaping death in the smash while filming for Top Gear, which he hosted with Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.

It came after TalkTV host Piers Morgan claimed that his pal Freddie had watched the Ashes “incognito” in a back office while recovering from his injuries.

In new photos from today, Freddie was snapped at the Kia Oval in London, taking part in net sessions.

The sportsman and presenter was busy helping Jofra Archer practice bowling after taking some time away from the public eye.

Freddie seemed to be enjoying the day, whilst shielding the injuries on his face with a blue bucket hat.

The star could be seen with a wound on his chin and nose, as he accessorised with a pair of aviator sunglasses.

Freddie’s condition was described by Piers on talkSPORT, who said: “I’d heard from various people that through the Ashes series that he was turning up as a guest of Rob Key, who runs England cricket now and is one of his great mates, but they were very incognito and watching it in back offices on TV.

“A very small number of people went to see him.

“I was encouraged, but he’s still got a lot of scarring on his face and signs of injury nine months after the crash.

“I know he’s had a lot of mental health issues because of it, as you would expect because it was a horrendous crash that nearly killed him.”

Back in December, Freddie’s life changed as he sustained horror injuries to his jaw and was left with broken ribs.

The TV star was airlifted to hospital after the roofless high-speed, three-wheel car he was driving for Top Gear flipped and slid along a track.

Freddie first made a comeback to the public eye last Friday, when he was seen joining coaching staff at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens for the one-day international series against New Zealand.

Today, the star, who made history whilst competing in the Ashes for England in 2005, proudly wore his England training kit for his second public appearance since the crash.

Top Gear has not resumed filming since Freddie’s 2022 crash.

There has been no update from the BBC on whether the cricket legend will return to his hosting role on the show.
