Scottie Scheffler breaks down in tears at Ryder Cup as wife Meredith consoles world No1 golfer as Team USA flounder | The Sun
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER had to be consoled by his wife after breaking down in tears at the Ryder Cup.
The world number one was on the receiving end of a heavy defeat in Saturday morning's foursomes alongside Brooks Koepka.
Europe's Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg won the match 9&7 to extend their lead at Marco Simone.
Hovland and Aberg's margin of victory was the largest in Ryder Cup history.
Scheffler's miscued shot at the 11th all but sealed the USA's fate, with Koepka unable to rescue the hole as Europe won the match.
The result continued Team USA's torrid weekend, with the reigning champions winning just one match so far in Rome.

After the match, an emotional Scheffler was spotted being consoled by his wife Meredith.
She could be seen rubbing his back and speaking to him as he wiped his eyes.
The 2022 Masters champion has known Meredith Scudder since their school days before tying the knot in December 2020.
Meredith is regularly seen cheering her husband on at tournaments and was there in support as he won his first Major last year.

Scheffler and Koepka had tied their fourballs match on Friday afternoon against Jon Rahm and Nicolai Hojgaard.
That match came after he and Sam Burns were beaten 4&3 by Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton during the morning foursomes on day one.
However, he will not feature in Saturday's fourballs after being left out of the pairings by Team USA captain Zach Johnson.
