New details surrounding death of Strictly judge Len Goodman have been confirmed

Strictly Come Dancing pays tribute to Len Goodman

Strictly judge Len Goodman’s death certificate reveals he died after prostate cancer spread to his bones.

Len was surrounded by family when he passed away just three days short of his 79th birthday at a hospice in April this year.

The star had undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumour in his prostate gland in June 2009 and kept it a secret from colleagues at the time.

Following the surgery Len said that everything was “gorgeously good” but his death certificate shows that, tragically, the cancer at some point later spread to his bones with his cause of death being recorded as “metastatic prostate cancer”.

According to Cancer Research UK, metastatic prostate cancer is sometimes called ‘advanced prostate cancer’.

The charity explains: “It most commonly spreads to lymph nodes in other parts of the body or to the bones. It can also spread to other organs such as the lungs.”

Len’s agent Jackie Gill had revealed at the time that he’d died from bone cancer.

His death was registered the day after what would have been his 79th birthday by his dance teacher wife, Sue, who was present when he died at Hospice In The Weald in Tunbridge Wells.

Len always spoke fondly of his wife and would often refer to her as “My Wonderful Sue,” whenever she came up in conversation.

Len was diagnosed with prostate cancer in March 2009 but had decided not to get treatment until after he had finished filming the American version of Strictly Come Dancing – Dancing With The Stars.

Afterwards, in an interview with the Mail On Sunday, Len said he had felt “vulnerable” when he found out about the diagnosis but was “right as rain” after the op.

He said at the time: “I could have said “sorry” and not done the show, but the doctors felt I wasn’t riddled with it and it wasn’t so far advanced that it was a life-or-death scenario.”

Five months before he died, Len announced his retirement from DWTS to “spend more time with my grandchildren and family back in Britain.”

His sudden death sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry as even his closest friends were unaware he was battling cancer again.

Fellow judge Anton Du Beke told the Mirror: “I knew Len as man and boy really, we became very good friends. “But I didn’t know he was ill, it was the suddenness of it.”

At the start of the new Strictly Come Dancing series, stars of the show including Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and Tess Daly paid tribute to “true gentleman” Len who was “perfect in every way”.

And Dancing With The Stars renamed their Mirrorball trophy after the late judge while teasing a “spectacular” dance tribute in a few weeks that viewers “won’t want to miss”.
