SHOULD the pro-Palestinian demonstration due to take place in London during Remembrance weekend be cancelled? THE GREAT DEBATE

The pro-Palestine protest that is planned in London on Armistice Day has provoked intense debate in the country. 

If it goes ahead, it will come a week after protesters sparked fury with their demonstrations.

Protesters in Trafalgar Square held a banner of a Hamas bulldozer with the slogan ‘from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’ – considered to mean a call for the destruction of the state of Israel.

Elsewhere in the capital, a crowd on a Tube train were filmed demanding ‘intifada’ against the Jewish state. The Chief Rabbi branded the scenes ‘hateful extremism’.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has since come under pressure to ask the Home Secretary to ban any marches that could coincide with Armistice Day commemorations.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had starkly warned that there was a ‘clear and present risk’ that the Cenotaph in Whitehall and other war memorials could be ‘desecrated’ during the march.

The alleged threat prompted some Britons – including veterans, to stand guard around the Cenotaph.

The men held up signs reading ‘have some respect for your British heroes’, waved Union Jack flags and sang Rule Britannia.

However, one of the groups behind marches that have been held since the war between Israel and Hamas broke out last month insisted it had ‘no intention of marching on or near Whitehall.’
