Terrifying moment van driver undertakes car without indicating on fast lane of the M4 as rain pelts down
- Driver was issued five penalty points, as well as fines and costs totalling £482
This is the terrifying moment an ‘impatient and careless’ van driver undertakes a car on the fast lane of the M4 as heavy rain pelts down.
Video shows how the driver merged towards the left without using an indicator before driving on the lane divider and inching between two other vehicles.
The driver’s manoeuvre forced another vehicle to take evasive action, South Wales Police have said.
Officers identified the driver, but they failed to comply with the conditional offer a fixed penalty and the case was sent to court.
The driver ultimately pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and was issued five penalty points, as well as fines and costs totalling £482.

Police shared video of the incident on X, formerly Twitter, yesterday morning and it has already been viewed more than 215,000 times.
Social media users are outraged by the driver’s ‘horrendous’ behaviour, with some even arguing that the individual ‘should have been banned from driving for a few years’.
One tweeted: ‘Should’ve lost his licence end of – absolutely disgusting driving.’
‘They kept their driving licence! Our courts are pathetic,’ echoed another.
A furious Twitter user added: ‘Omg that could of been horrendous. Lives could of been lost with that driving, if you can call it driving.
‘[They] would not comply with fixed penalty, goes to court and gets a slapped wrist. Absolutely disgusting, should of deffo had a ban, for Christ sake people get a ban for less.’
MailOnline has approached South Wales Police for comment.
