Tech boss demands AI override over fears machines will soon take control
A tech boss has warned humans will lose control of AI as he calls for a urgent action to stop machines taking over the world.
Arm Holdings boss Rene Haas urged for a way for systems to be "shut down" over fears about where the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is heading. The tech guru fears that the modern technology could wreak havoc if humans aren't careful.
Speaking to Bloomburg, Mr Haas said: "The thing I worry about most is humans 'losing capability' over machines. You need some override, some backdoor, some way that the system can be shut down."

He added: "I think it will find its way into everything that we do, and every aspect of how we work, live, play. It's going to change everything over the next five-to-10 years."
Arm Holdings designs chips for nearly all smartphones. Currently there are thought to be 2.5 billion premium phones already using AI, powered by Arm chips – technology which the company believes could "change the world."
In February 2022, Mr Haas said: "It is an honour to lead the world's most influential technology company at a time when Arm's market opportunity has never been greater. Arm changed lives around the globe by delivering the technology at the heart of the smartphone revolution.
"We are now uniquely positioned to address the diverse demands of AI, cloud, IoT, automotive and the Metaverse. And with the uncertainty of the past several months behind us, we are emboldened by a renewed energy to move into a growth strategy and change lives around the world – again."
This follows Microsoft's announcement last month to invest £2.5 billion over the next three years to expand data centres for AI across the UK. The tech company has promised to train "more than one million people for the AI economy," and they're also going to help make sure AI is safe.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: "The UK started the global conversation on AI earlier this month, and Microsoft's historic investment is further evidence of the leading role we continue to play in expanding the frontiers of AI to harness its economic and scientific benefits."
