BBC Breakfast star Naga Munchetty lands another huge TV role
BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty has secured another huge TV gig. Although she is best known for hosting the early morning magazine show, she has branched, most recently hosting Have I Got News For You.
Now it has been announced that she’ll appear as a guest on Would I Lie to You’s Christmas special. The show’s official social media accounts teased her appearance in the festive episode to fans.
The post reads: “Christmas is coming early… it’s the WILTY festive special THIS FRIDAY, 22nd December at 8pm on @BBCOne. Spread the word!” In the photo accompanying the post, Naga could be seen posing with host Rob Brydon and panellists Lee Mack, Victoria Coren Mitchell, Melvin Hayes and David Mitchell.
Naga is usually seen on the famous red BBC Breakfast sofa alongside Charlie Stayt from Thursdays to Saturdays each week. Following her presenting stint on Have I Got News For You she found herself on the receiving end of a cruel troll who took umbrage at one of her jokes about Boris Johnson.
In the clip that irked them, Naga made a quip about The former Prime Minister’s evidence at the Covid enquiry that she would never get away with in her day job. She referenced his remark: “Abusive messages are part of the creative process.”

Responding to a post of the clip, where the presenter also described the former Prime Minister as a “t*****”, the troll wrote: “It is well known inside and outside of the media circuit that @TVNaga01 is a total c**t.”
Rather than find the accusation offensive, the star clapped back: “I must ask my (obviously very few) friends to stop talking to strangers…”
Her humorous response drew support from Carol Vorderman who commented: “Ah, the old misogynists are out in force…. again… gets dull after a while doesn’t it? Sending best.”
The trolling came just days after a 2020 interview resurfaced in which she admitted that not everyone likes her.

She shared the brutal advice her director husband, James Haggar told her when she first started out in news. “You need to have thicker skin. People either love you or hate you, but you need to not take it personally,” he told her.
In the interview with The Guardian, she said James’ advice provided her with a huge lesson and further admitted that she has taken it into her off-screen life, too.
She said: “It’s not that I don’t care – but it’s in perspective. [I always assume] that people don’t like me. It’s a really weird thing.
“I think I grow on people. I don’t think I make a great first impression. I’m comfortable with that. I think people see a loud person who’s opinionated and not afraid to say what she thinks.”
The Would I Lie To You Christmas special, is on BBC One at 8pm on Friday December 22.
