Pregnancy can have some pretty bad side effects including bizarre cravings, swollen ankles and morning sickness that lasts all days.

Whilst most mums-to-be go through a nesting stage, one mum decided to skip her baby shower and made her loved ones clean instead.

Though you might not be on mum-tok, you'll probably have seen your fair share of lavish baby showers on social media

Complex party games, extravagant gifts and increasingly elaborate gender reveals have become the norm, with parents often going to extremes due to their excitement about their little one.

However, this trend might be finally coming to an end.

Overwhelmed by party planning, expectant mum Nia Lui had a rather unusual alternative to a traditional baby shower: a nesting party.

For those who’ve never heard of this, loved ones help you prepare for your new arrival by deep cleaning your home instead of buying baby-related gifts.

The US influencer explained her reasoning, telling her 52,000 TikTok followers that she 'hated being the centre of attention' and that she wasn't excited to play 'dumb party games' either.

While most of us wouldn't be willing to sign up for extra housework, her friends jumped at the chance organise an alternative shower for the mum-to-be.

In fact, one of her besties even helped organised who would do what chores during the party

"I sent her a list of things that I wanted to get done before baby came, and she made little cards for each person to take on a section of the house,” revealed Nia, adding: “I kind of took on more of a supervisor role, kind of telling people where I wanted things and what I wanted to do with things.”

The Tiktoker later shared clips from the ‘nesting party’, which touchingly showed her loved ones spending hours vacuuming, washing the windows and even hoovering.

However, the housework was far from over, with the women stopping for a quick lunch before continuing with the intense clean.

They even prepared meals for the mum-to-be, ready to unfreeze once her little one arrived.

Nia later told her fans: “everything was so clean and organized, and I feel so much more ready for this baby.”

She added: “I highly recommend a nesting party if you're getting ready for a baby."

Though her video has been seen by over 1.3 million people, the event has sparked serious debate online.

One commenter cruelly wrote: "I’m shocked at the entitlement. Has she ever cleaned their house?"

Another added: “I'd be so uncomfortable the whole time, but I'm glad it works for others.”

However, other mums were excited about the alternative party with some wishing that they’d had similar support during their pregnancy.

 "I feel like this would be amazing for people on their second third or fourth kid because there is just no time once you have other children," suggested a third.

"Honestly, I’d prefer doing this to sitting for three hours watching someone open presents," admitted a fourth.

Whilst it might not be the norm yet, we can imagine many mums-to-be would love a nesting party.
