Karren Brady shares suspicion about David Beckham success and Victorias role

David Beckham reveals how he found out about Messi's Miami move

Victoria Beckham is the mind behind her husband David Beckham’s off-field success, according to Karren Brady.

Writing in her column for The Sun, the business guru and television personality gave all the credit for David’s post-playing career to his singer-turned-fashion designer wife, Victoria.

Karren, 54, wrote: “Beckham missed a few chances on the field but hardly any at all in business.

“I have long suspected his wife — former Spice Girl Victoria — has played a major part in his off-pitch success.

“He has the smile, she has the brains.”

Karren also touched on how some of Beckham’s success could be down to him being likeable.

Recalling how he has played big parts in important UK events, from helping to secure London’s Olympic bid through to queuing with the crowd to visit the Queen lying in state.

She wrote: “No one minds that. Or him. He smiles well, talks confidently, and he is almost wholly liked across the world but for one thing — those 60-odd tattoos from knee to neck.”

David, 48, has swapped the football pitch for the boardroom and is now co-owner of American professional football club Inter Miami.

Karren, who is vice chairman at West Ham, also claimed David is a “go-getter” and praised the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player for playing a major role in signing Leo Messi to his new club.

And the move appeared to be a good one as Inter Miami haven’t lost a game since Messi arrived and even earned their first title with a Leagues Cup victory over Nashville.

Beckham spoke to The Athletic about some of the tactics he used to try and get Leo to sign for his club, including sneaking in to a hotel to speak to Leo’s father Jorge.

He said: “We snuck into a hotel, met Jorge Messi and started the conversation,It purely went, “We would love your son to play for our team one day. We know he can’t come yet, but one day we would love to have Leo in Miami””

Karren believes that the Beckham effect can spearhead soccer growth in the USA saying: “I’m sure it’s the start of a US soccer surge but there is lots of work to do. If anyone can do it, I am sure David Beck-ham can.”
