Strictly’s Shirley Ballas took to Instagram to tell the world about the death of her costume designer pal Luca Sartori, whose death at the age of just 54 was announced at the weekend.
The devastated head judge told her 283,000 followers the news of his seizure, with the tragedy occurring just weeks before series 21 of Strictly Come Dancing is due to kick off.
Sharing a photo of the much-loved designer, accompanied by a poignant poem, she attached a broken-heart emoji as she lamented: “Very saddening news for our industry today.
“A very treasured loved one was lost. My dear friend Luca,” Shirley wrote, explaining that the pair had known each other for years.
She continued: “We have been there for each other when things sometimes got tough in the industry. Luca always made me laugh.

“He had a unique way of making you feel special. A hug from him helped everything. Those strong Italian arms of reassurance for a woman were unforgettable.”
The nostalgic star recalled how he’d been an invaluable part of creating the impressive wardrobe for which she is known for on the BBC show.
“I’ll always remember having fittings for my evening wear, they were always a treat. Listening to your design and rhinestone ideas throughout the years were my favourite,” she reminisced.
“Your relationship with [your partner] Vesa was the envy of many. A kind and caring duo who loved everything about each other” she gushed.

“My condolences to @vesahietala and all of his family and friends. Sending you huge love and hugs at this difficult time.”
She went on to add: “I’m going to remember the memories I have for many years and I know many people will carry you in their hearts.
“Rest In Peace Luca, you were one in a million that has been taken far too soon. Xxx.”
Her passionate post follows on from one published by his partner Vesa Hietala, a fellow designer and former competitive ballroom dancer, who shared the tragic news on Sunday.
Explaining the events that led up to his death, he wrote: “Luca had no known health conditions, but had a seizure of some kind and his heart just stopped.
“The paramedics tried to revive him for 50 minutes, but sadly he never regained consciousness. I have no words to describe my pain and loss.”
He explained that Luca had been the “love of my life, my best friend and my partner of 26 years”, leading Shirley to sympathise: “Omg I’m so so sorry for your loss”, before penning her own tribute post.
Meanwhile, Shirley’s account was flooded with several thousands of supportive likes and comments in the aftermath of the tragedy.
@mrs_tt_owl summed up the mood when she told her: “Sending you, Vesa and everyone who knew and loved him, lots of love, light and strength, as you move through the days and weeks ahead. X.”
