Howard Webb orders clamp down on Prem refereeing

Refs chief Howard Web has told Premier League officials they MUST clamp down on players waving imaginary cards.

PGMOLĀ boss Webb has also reiterated the need for refs to enforce directives penalising dissent.

And in a further statement of intent, Webb wants VAR officials to step in if ā€œsoftā€ penalties are wrongly awarded.

The former World Cup final whistler laid down his demands at the scheduled gathering of officials at their Loughborough base ahead of this weekendā€™s Prem resumption.

WebbĀ pointed out that the early season directive to book – and if a second offence, send off – players showing imaginary cards after fouls appears to have been forgotten in recent weeks.

That inconsistency has been a complaint from fans up and down the country.

Webb is equally keen to ensure the strong line against dissent continues – as a way of enforcing better behaviour from players and managers alike.

Brazil boss risks wrath of Arteta

Brazil boss Fernando Daniz has risked the wrath of Mikel Arteta.

It comes after the South American nation's interim boss playedĀ ArsenalĀ starĀ Gabriel JesusĀ despite him not being ready to start according to Gunners medical staff.

Jesus, 26, was struggling for fitness with a hamstring issue ahead of the international break and last featured for the Gunners on October 24.

Arsenal had toldĀ BrazilĀ in no uncertain terms that the forward was not fit enough to start in their view, insisting he continue his recovery in north London.

However,Ā FifaĀ rules dictate a national team can still can up a player regardless of what the club's medical team says.

    That's exactly what Brazil did.

And to make matters worse for the Gunners, Jesus played a full match against Argentina.

    Gabriel Jesus defends goalscoring form

Gabriel Jesus says goals are not his "strong point" as the Arsenal forward responded to criticism about his poor scoring record for Brazil.

Speaking about his scoring record at international level, Jesus told Terra: ā€œThere are things that bothered me a lot in the post 2018 World Cup cycle. I was younger, I had a different mind.

ā€œToday I am a more mature man, more educated, a family man. I understand football is a priority for me, and I know I need to be well to do my best, especially in the Brazilian team.

ā€œThere are things that I donā€™t control. I train, I look for, I try, I move, I help the team. The goal is inevitable. I believe itā€™s not my strong point, but I score goals and Iā€™m there to score goal.

ā€œWhen I come back, it will happen. Itā€™s work. I work quietly, Iā€™m not one to respond to criticism, Iā€™m not one to be happy for praise. I was, I wonā€™t be anymore.ā€

    Declan Rice discusses Arsenal pressure

Declan Rice has discussed the pressure that comes with being signed for Ā£105million.

He said: ā€œPeople need to see performances straight away. I want to repay the club straight away, they have invested a lot of money in me, I need to prove why I can go there and change things.

ā€œWhen the transfer was going through, I was very nervous because of the price tag. Itā€™s natural to think about that. Youā€™re a human being bought for Ā£105 million, it doesnā€™t feel very normal.

ā€œBut that was because of what Iā€™d done at West Ham, what they valued me at. When I signed for Arsenal I just thought, 'I just need to be Declan Rice', be myself, donā€™t be any different and everything will go smoothly."

    Campbell calls for Jesus comeback

Kevin Campbell has praised Leandro Trossard but believes he should be dropped for Gabriel Jesus against Brentford.

He said: "Jesus comes back in. Sorry, Trossard. I think Trossard is a top player, but heā€™s not Jesus. Jesus gives us another dimension.

"I was hoping when Jesus went down that Trossard would have grabbed a few games a bit more, but he shared the load with Eddie a bit more. Jesus is the top man; he is the top man."

    Ramsdale told to leave Arsenal

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has been told to leave the club by Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking about Ramsdale being given a chance to prove himself against Brentford, the pundit said on talkSPORT: ā€œItā€™ll be a tough game and he knows that all eyes are going to be on him because he hasnā€™t played for so long and this is his chance to shine.

ā€œThereā€™s a lot of pressure on Ramsdale but he has to go in January. Arteta has made it clear.ā€

Pundit tips Arsenal to sign Toney

Former Chelsea defender Scott Minto has backed Arsenal to secure a deal for Brentford's Ivan Toney in a recent interview on TalkSPORT.

He said: "With Ivan Toney, itā€™s a case of when he leaves Brentford, not if.

"Iā€™d love to see him at Chelsea, but I think heā€™ll be at Arsenal next season.ā€

    FA hand Arteta response extension

Mikel Arteta has been handed an extension by the FA to respond to his charge for comments after Arsenal's defeat to Newcastle.

The Gunners boss was furious after Anthony Gordon's goal was allowed to stand at St James Park earlier this month, labelling it an "absolute disgrace" in his post-match press conference as he hit out at the "embarrassing" officiating.

It was confirmed last week that Arteta had been charged by the FA, and initially had until Tuesday to respond. That has now been extended to this Friday, November 24.

Arteta was backed by Arsenal following his rant, with the club "wholeheartedly" supporting his comments in a statement released the following day, and the Spaniard has had little interest in backing down since then.

Arsenal will not face punishment for their response, but Arteta could face a touchline ban after his charge.

    William Gallas slams summer signing

Former Arsenal star William Gallas has slammed the club's decision to buy Kai Havertz.

He toldĀ Genting Casino: "I said at the beginning of the season that Havertz would struggle for Arsenal.

"I donā€™t want to sound like a broken record, but he is still struggling.

"I think it was always going to be difficult for Havertz to adapt to the way that Arsenal play and the way that Arteta wants to use him.

"I donā€™t think he was the type of player that Arsenal needed to sign in the summer.

"When you look at the squad, in my opinion, there were different types of players that they should have prioritised.

"It looks like it was a mistake to sign him."

Arsenal told to sign England star

Mikael Silvestre also believes his former side should be trying to sign Crystal Palace and England star Marc Guehi.

He told bettingexpert: "I think Marc Guehi is doing really well at the moment and for sure, Arsenal should be, for him personally, an objective."

"Champions League, title contenders. Could be Arsenal or could be other teams in the PL or abroad."

"He has definitely proven he's on the rise."

    Arteta told to sign Brazilian

Former Arsenal star Mikael Silvestre has advised Mikel Arteta to sign Ruben Neves ahead of Douglas Luiz.

He told bettingexpert: "I think I'd go for Douglas Luiz even though it's a close call between him and Ruben Neves."

"Maybe because there is Brazilian connection at Arsenal with Gabriel Jesus, Martinelli, Gabriel Magalhaes, I would go for Douglas Luiz. I would add a fourth Brazilian."

Juventus are hopeful that Arsenal target Dusan Vlahovic will sign a new contract with the club, report 90min.

Vlahovic was linked with a departure from The Old Lady this summer and manager Max Allegri reportedly gave permission for the player to depart, but a move never materialised.

Both Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in the Serbia international, according to the report, however his current employers are confident that he will commit his future to the Turin outfit.

    Seaman shares Aaron Ramsdale verdict

David Seaman has argued Aaron Ramsdale is too good to sit on the bench for Arsenal.

He told the BBC: ā€œIf Aaron goes in at the weekend, then heā€™s left out for the next game, then we know who Mikelā€™s number one is.

ā€œItā€™s not good for Aaron. Heā€™s a top-class goalkeeper; thereā€™s no doubt about that.

ā€œItā€™s the game after this weekend, thatā€™s where we will find a lot of answers. From what Mikel was saying when he brought Raya in, when he talked about rotating goalkeepers in games, which I still found a bit bizarre, weā€™ll have to wait and see after this game.

ā€œAaronā€™s too good to be a number two, that is for sure.ā€

Rice only going to get better

Former West Ham United coach Mark Warburton says itā€™s ā€˜frighteningā€™ how good Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice could become.

He told The Athletic: ā€œPeople talk about Dec as if he is what he is always going to be, but I think there is another 20 per cent to come, which is frightening in terms of what he can achieve.

ā€œThe Arsenal players will always hear his voice. Heā€™s a dominant personality but thereā€™s not a bone of arrogance in him.

ā€œHe has a swagger on the pitch that he knows heā€™s a good player. Thatā€™s it, and you need that.ā€

Heaven was photographed alongside Martin Odegaard in Arsenal training.

Jesus plays 90 mins for Brazil

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus played 90 minutes for Brazil on his return from injury in their bad-tempered 1-0 defeat to Argentina.

Jesus had not played since he suffered a hamstring strain against Sevilla in the Champions League on October 24.

Arsenal had been concerned about Jesus being rushed back into action but the striker joined up with Brazil last week and started their World Cup qualifier against Argentina on Tuesday night.

He appeared to come through the match unscathed and is now due to fly back to London and return to Arsenal ahead of their game against Brentford on Saturday.

Arsenal will assess Jesus on his return and Mikel Arteta will then make a decision on his involvement against Brentford.

Jorginho's contract talks with Arsenal are 'at a standstill', according to the midfielder's agent.

The 31-year-old's deal with the North London club currently runs until 2024 after he signed an 18-month deal from Chelsea last January.

However, his agent Joao Santos confirmed that "everything is at a standstill," adding: "We'll think about it after February. However, the priority remains Arsenal."

    Havertz shares reason for joining

Kai Havertz has revealed the ā€œtogetherness of the club from the players and the fansā€ was a big factor for him joining Arsenal.

He told the club website: ā€œFrom outside, Arsenal always looked like a family.

ā€œThatā€™s the feeling I got when playing. And when I joined, that was exactly what it was like, and the staff are really nice too ā€“ and that makes life easier for a new player.

ā€œFrom the first minute that I spoke to Mikel about joining Arsenal, I had this feeling that he respects all of us very much, so that was also a big part of me joining the club. I just felt the togetherness of the club from the players and especially within the fans and the whole club."

    Vieira tipped for loan move

Marseille are interested in signing Fabio Vieira on loan, according to The Mirror.

While Marseille's interest is believed to be in its early stages, Vieira could be tempted by the move given it would present a higher chance of regular football.

He has failed to complete 90 minutes in the league so far this term and has only played more than a half once.

    Key star back in training

Martin Odegaard was spotted back in first-team training on Tuesday.

The club captain missed the last three games through a combination of a hip injury and latterly concussion, before skipping international duty with Norway.

Given the continued absence of Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe, plus the suspension of Fabio Vieira, who was given a straight red card against Burnley, Odegaardā€™s availability will represent a major boost to Arteta.
