Bride-to-be reveals she UNINVITED her own sister from her wedding
Bride-to-be sparks furious debate after revealing she UNINVITED her own sister from her wedding over the raunchy outfit she was planning to wear
- The Reddit user shared her conundrum to the site’s ‘Am I the A**hole’ forum
- The woman deemed the bridesmaid dress her sister chose as inappropriate
- She said the dress had a slit up to her waist and her chest was barely covered
Something borrowed, something blue – and maybe some underwear for the bridesmaids too.
A bride-to-be has made her family furious after threatening to uninvite her sister from her wedding if she refuses to choose a different bridesmaid’s dress.
The unnamed woman, believed to be from the US, said the outfit her sister chose was too risque – with ‘a slit up to her waist and her back and chest are barely covered.’
The 26-year-old bride shared her conundrum in a post to Reddit’s ‘Am I The A**hole’ forum, explaining her sister, who is 28, has always dressed in a ‘skimpily’ and she usually doesn’t mind – but doesn’t want it on her wedding day.

The exasperated woman attached a photo of Beyoncé wearing a racy pink outfit with two thigh-high slits and a skimpy crisscross top during her Renaissance tour in June (pictured), as an example of the type of dress her sister had chosen to wear
‘We were raised in a liberal home where we were allowed to wear anything or nothing at home,’ the post explained. ‘My sister has always dressed very skimpily and I didn’t mind because I was used to it at home.’
However, the woman, who is getting married in February 2024, was appalled when her sister showed her what she intended on wearing.
‘I was shocked to say the least,’ she admitted. ‘The dress shows clearly that she’s not wearing a bra or panties because it has a slit up to her waist and her back and chest are barely covered.’

Although she is used to her sister’s revealing style, the engaged woman said she is not comfortable with what she has decided to wear for her big day.
‘I’m uncomfortable with her being around other people especially my fiancé and his family looking like that,’ she explained. ‘My parents see nothing wrong with her outfit.’
Unhappy with her family’s response, she gave her sister an ultimatum: if she doesn’t find a different (and more appropriate) dress, then she is no longer one of the bridesmaids and will not be invited to the wedding anymore.
‘[My sister] feels that I’m being unfair since I have no right to control what people wear and I also let all bridesmaids choose whatever design they wanted as long as they stuck to the colors I gave,’ she said sternly.

Reddit users agreed that the bride wasn’t in the wrong – and her sister should adhere to her dress requests
‘Her chosen color sticks to the color scheme and that’s okay but the design makes me feel it’s not appropriate,’ she argued. ‘I don’t want my sister flashing my guests but she called me an a**hole when I disinvited her.’
‘Now she and my parents are not talking to me,’ the anguished bride concluded her post. ‘My fiancé said he has no opinion on it and would go with what I decided.’
Reddit users responded overwhelmingly on the bride’s side, agreeing she has every right to dictate that her bridesmaid’s don’t wear anything too racy.
‘Oh for crying out loud. Dress codes exist everywhere in life, and yes the host of an event can set the dress code,’ agreed another.
Some users thought the sister was dressing that way for attention.
‘Any maid of honor wearing a dress like that, standing right next to the bride, will get ALL of the attention and she will be ALL people talk about/remember,’ one pointed out.
‘I really don’t think [your] sister is doing this because she loves the dress – she wants to be the center of attention.’
‘Exactly. I did this at my wedding and it was no issue… My bridesmaids got dresses they actually liked and kept, and everyone looked uniquely good, but I got approval/veto rights,’ another explained.
‘For the sister AND the parents to react this way is so entitled. Most bridesmaids don’t get any say at all.’
