First look at new £55m attraction opening in the UK next year – with 250m beachfront and huge surf lagoon | The Sun

A BRAND new surf lagoon opening in the UK next year has been hailed as a "game-changer" as brand new images are released.

The pictures have revealed what people have to look forward to once the attraction finally opens next year in Ratho, near Edinburgh

The Lost Shore Surf Resort will be the world's first inland surfing experience, according to Andrew Hadden, who is leading the project.

However, surfing won't be the only thing on offer, with new mock up pictures showing off luxury lodges, accommodation pods, restaurants, a spa and shops within the 60-acre site.

Mr Hadden is very excited at the progress that has been made on the £55m development and promised that the resort will be a "huge addition".

He told the East Lothian Courier: “It is so incredibly exciting for us to share these new images.

"Bringing the world’s first inland surfing resort to Scotland is such a huge addition to the world-class tourism that we already have.”

As well as being a world-first, the lagoon's 250 metre-long "beachfront" will be the longest in Europe.

Once it's open, novice surfers will be able to learn from instructors, with wetsuits and surfboard hire included in the price.

Heated indoor changing rooms will ensure that visitors don't get too once their session is over.

Meanwhile, the waves in the pool will be created with "cutting-edge wave technology" provided by Spanish company Wavegarden.

Marc Crothall, chief executive of the Scottish Tourism Alliance, added: “This spectacular resort is going to be a real game-changer for Scottish tourism.”

Developers hope they will be able to open The Lost Shore by September next year.

Ratho isn't the only place in the UK with plans for a surfing lagoon, with Deal in Kent hoping to open the country's first surfing wellness resort in its Betteshanger Park.

The main feature of the attraction would be a huge lagoon and surf pool, where both beginners and experts can practise.

There would also be a skate park for skateboards, bikes and scooters on site, as well as a wellness area and spa.

A 120-bed luxury hotel with a spa, gym and restaurant are also included in the plans, which were first announced last year.

The resort hoped to open by 2025, although this may be delayed further while waiting for planning approval.

Elsewhere, a new £250m water attraction is also set to open in Manchester, with Therme also hoping to open by 2025.

The 28-acre resort will have a "garden of wellness," 25 swimming pools, including a wave pool, and 35 water slides.

There will be an indoor beach, the first all-season beach in the country, as well as an entire wellness area.

This includes an adult-only section with swim up bars, water lagoons, steam rooms and saunas.

Restaurants and cafes will also be onsite, and there will be parking as well as access to public transport.
