DEAR DEIDRE: AFTER making a small mistake at work, I was demoted.

Since then I’ve been treated so badly that I’ve started to feel suicidal.

I’m a 42-year-old man and have always taken pride in my job, and given it my all. But I inputted some data wrongly, which was costly for the company.

I admitted my mistake but for months, while the company investigated it, I lived under the threat of dismissal.

Eventually, they decided to give me another job instead, one which pays less and is beneath my capabilities.

I had no choice but to accept it. I’ve lost all my confidence, can’t sleep and am struggling to function.

I’ve had no support from anyone, including HR. They just sided with my manager.

So I’ve realised the company doesn’t care about me, despite my years service. It feels like my whole life is unravelling.
