TOWIEs Tommy Mallet explains why he sold £200K car after quitting trainer empire
Tommy Mallet has shared the reason behind his decision to sell his collection of high-end cars, admitting he wants to be "more relatable" to people.
The former The Only Way Is Essex star, 31, who has amassed a huge fortune thanks to his business empire, opened up about getting rid of his vehicles in a chat on the Motive Mentality channel, which was shared on TikTok.
Tommy was asked: "How come you sold up all your cars then? G Wagon gone as well?" to which he bluntly responded: "Everything is gone."
The dad-of-one, who shares son Brody, two, with wife Georgia Kousoulou, went on to explain he wanted to have a "reset" and didn't want to rub his wealth in "people's faces".
"It's to have a re-set. And … I'll tell you the actual reason behind it. So when the fuel prices are going up and me putting petrol in the car bruv, it makes no difference to me money-wise. If you're driving a £200K car, doesn't matter does it?" Tommy explained.
He went on to say: "When I pull up at the petrol station and you've got my man struggling to put a tenner in his car to get to work, do I want to be pulling up in the £200K motor jumping out, putting it in the car, jumping back in.
"No man, that's not who I want to be. I want to be relatable. I want to be able to come across as a normal person.
"I've done well, and I've got money, but in these next few years that are going to be tough, I don't want to be rubbing it in people's faces. Because that's when the hate starts man. I don't want that."
It comes after Tommy announced he stepped down from his role at Mallet after eight years. The co-founding director took to Instagram to share the news of his departure and posted a lengthy caption alongside a snap which saw him sitting in front of his company sign.
Tommy wrote: "I never thought I’d be sitting here writing this, but with it now being public knowledge through news articles I have to address.
"On the 31st of October I stood down from my role at Mallet London, the company I love and always will do, for many reasons, the main one being I feel it’s important to grow in life and not stay still, I’ve done all I set out to accomplish with this brand, and I’m forever grateful for what I’ve learnt and who I’ve met along the way!
"I love you all involved (even the ones I’ve been in legal battles with) because without you I wouldn’t be who I am today and wouldn’t be prepared for what’s in front of me in my journey! I’ve learnt a lot this year and the main lesson for me is no matter what don’t be scared to start again if it’s something you believe in, I still own the company and I’ve left it in good hands!"
He added: "I want it to strive and I’m excited to see what’s next for it under another direction… I always wanted to leave on a high and for me it doesn’t get much better than Reebok!"
Tommy ended the post by saying: "Team I love you dearly! And thank you for everything I wouldn’t of been here without you and also a massive thank you to Evren to sharing my vision and going through the madness with me! Ciao for now, the best is yet to come."
