BBC Breakfasts Sally Nugent rolls her eyes after cheeky Vernon Kay quip

Vernon Kay apologises for ‘being cheeky’ on BBC Breakfast

BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent was less than impressed when she spoke to Vernon Kay this morning ahead of his epic Ultra Marathon challenge for charity.

The 49-year-old revealed that he is embarking on a huge challenge for Children in Need, where he will be running from London’s Victoria Park to Bolton Wanderer’s stadium.

Today is the first day Vernon is expected to run a number of marathons and ultramarathons over the course of four days.

Speaking to Sally this morning, Vernon was asked how his training had gone.

“How do you train for running? Just run!” Vernon cheekily quipped.

Visibly unamused, Sally crossed her arms and rolled her eyes as she replied: “For all these marathons I mean, Vernon.”

Giggling to himself, Vernon replied: “I’ve been doing my finest Forrest Gump impression. Lots of miles under the belt. I’ve been doing different tempos.

“I’ve been doing long runs at a slow pace and short runs at a fast pace.”

Sally interrupted: “See? It is more complicated than you said.”

Speaking about the challenge, Vernon said: “I was just settling into my new mid-morning routine and now this!”

The radio presenter later apologised to Sally, telling her” Sorry for being cheeky.”

At the start of the year, Ken Bruce announced that he would be leaving his position on BBC Radio 2 after 31 years.

Vernon was named as the replacement host and recently revealed that he “expected” BBC listener viewer figures to drop.

Speaking to Radio Times, he admitted: “There was a dip when Ken Bruce left but that’s to be expected.

“Ken’s a radio icon and there’s a lot of love for him. That’s proven by him taking some of the audience with him to Greatest Hits, which is fabulous for him.”

Vernon’s challenge will start on Tuesday, November 14, and will aim to finish on Friday, November 17.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
