Carol Vorderman reveals secret rule about rude words on Countdown fans never see on screens | The Sun
CAROL Vorderman has revealed the secret rule about rude words getting used in Countdown which makes sure that fans never see them on screen.
The telly star, 62, shared that scenes where contestants spell out inappropriate words on the gameshow are cut and re-recorded.
To avoid breaking broadcasting rules, the rude language gets replaced by alternative words with a similar score.
She also told the Off Menu podcast host that she had to fight for composure when hearing some of the words contestants constructed.
Carol said: "Some [rude words] did come up, and we would have to keep a straight face. It's all about keeping a straight face.
"You know, in the early days they would go, 'No, cut, cut, cut', and we would have to do it again."

While she did joke that the presenters used off-limits language in the bar after the show, she has denied claims that a rude word beginning with 'CU' and ending with 'PS' was used on Countdown.
She said: "When something rude came up, that awful one that begins with 'CU' and ends in 'PS'- that never happened.
"You see that on a meme quite a lot – that never happened. No, we'd never have that [filmed for a show]. We couldn't have a rude word [on the show].
"Rude word Countdown happened in the bar after."
