Emmerdale stars screamed for real filming harrowing Super Soap Week scenes
Super Soap Week is just around the corner and there's some huge plot twists in store on Emmerdale as the love triangle between Charity Dingle, Mackenzie Boyd and Chloe Harris comes to a head. The drama will kick off on Monday 9 October with a whole week of jam-packed episodes to follow.
It's been revealed that Mack (Lawrence Boyd), Charity (Emma Atkins) and Chloe (Jessie Elland) will be involved in a car crash, after Chloe plans to drive them both to the middle of nowhere and leave them stranded but her plan backfires. After colliding with another vehicle, the trio regain consciousness to find Chloe's car teetering on a cliff edge. Mack is soon left with a tough decision – save Chloe or Charity.
Emmerdale is known for its incredible stunts, especially during Super Soap Week, and this year is no exception.
The car crash stunt involved 50 crew members, five red Ford C-Max cars, four make-up artists, three mannequins, three willing actors, one tractor and one director, and was filmed on a remote clifftop in Yorkshire.
The major stunt even had soap stars Lawrence, Emma and Jessie frightened, according to soap gossip expert Sharon Marshall, who appeared on This Morning to chat about Super Soap Week.
“They are screaming for real,” she said about the Emmerdale crash scenes. “A rolling car, a cliff and the two girls reaching out. Who is he going to save?"
OK! went behind the scenes to find out what the stunt was really like, and the three actors involved opened up about the exciting storyline.
Mackenzie actor Lawrence said: “The best bit for me has been filming at the quarry – getting bloodied up was pretty cool and hanging over the edge of the cliff. I’ve done a few stunts before – I was involved in the maze, saved a serial killer and ran through fire. But this is completely different, it’s a cross between Sophie’s Choice and The Italian Job."
He added: “Us three have been very lucky this year to be as heavily involved in the stunt as we have been – it probably won’t come around again in our Emmerdale life.”
Meanwhile Jessie, who plays Chloe, said: “I didn’t realise I was an adrenaline junkie until we started doing the stunts. The thing I’ve been looking forward to most is getting in the giant washing machine – it looks so fun. And when I opened the script, I said, ‘I can’t wait to get all the injury make-up.’ It’s very sticky though, every book I took on set ended up covered in blood."
