Michael joined BBC Breakfast presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt on Friday morning where he recalled his father’s final public outing.
Recalling his last time interviewing Michael, Charlie said: “It was a real delight by the way and you referenced it a minute ago.
“You were here with your dad, just not that long ago and it is so nice, personally it felt lovely because it felt very recent.”
Michael explained: “It was, it was very recent indeed, I have to say the lovely thing that happened to me following that interview.

“We went to do the Hay Festival about the book we talked about and it was a lovely moment when he walked on stage at the Hay Festival with 1,800 people.
“They applauded him on and they applauded him off and that was his last public appearance and then he went to do a book signing afterwards.
“And the outpouring of love for him and the sense of memories that people had for him about what he had done for them, the memories they had.
“Their favourite moments, it was lovely for him and that actually was his last public appearance which I think was the best for him.”

Naga was also keen to know what Michael did to get himself in the zone before heading on stage, in front of a camera to do his interviews.
She asked: “The thing with performers, journalists, presenters, actors, there is always something and it could be a personal thing or a public thing you could do to turn it on.
“You can tell us what that was, there is a switch, you see it it could be when you are getting your makeup done or walking into the studio, what was your dads?”
Michael revealed: “Well before a show he would read his autocue, he would come on stage and he would saunter on and he would say ‘Hello’, and then he would sit down.
“Faffing around and then he would go ‘Right’, and he would look and suddenly he was on, it was the autocue and that is what hooked him in.”
