My Mum, Your Dad viewers say big part of the show is leaving them distracted
Viewers of dating show My Mum, Your Dad, have been left distracted by one aspect of the programme.
In the series, Davina McCall hosts while single parents, who are all living in the same luxury mansion, look for love again. They've been nominated by their children, who are watching on nearby without them knowing.
It's a heart-warming addition to our screens and has been likened to Love Island for older adults. No stone has been left unturned so far when it comes to subject matter- from grief and abandonment to trust issues.
But one part of the show is leaving viewers seriously preoccupied – the soundtrack. It means people can't help bopping along to the music as they watch the parents dip their toes back into the dating pool.
One person said of the music, which is mostly from the 80's: "The soundtrack to #MyMumYourDad is sensational! Like listening to @magicfm. They understood the brief."
Another person added: "I'm loving this series so far but whoever was in charge of the music knows their tunes, some great songs being played."
A third revealed they were also a big fan of the tracks: "Watching #MyMumYourDad which is excellent… but can we just mention the soundtrack to it. What a set of tunes!!!"
It turns out that the music is so popular, viewers actually want the My Mum, Your Dad team to bring out an album with the soundtrack on it.
One person said: "@ThisisDavina can you release a soundtrack album for #MyMumYourDad because every tune are classics."
They need not worry, as there's already a Spotify playlist with the songs from the series on it that Davina has shared.
It comes after some fans fumed over one aspect of the show last week and took to social media to air their frustrations.
People complained that the contestants' children drove their parents to the My Mum, Your Dad retreat in swanky cars.
One wrote: “Love how all the kids are rocking up in brand new cars. Our kids are still on the bus or taking a Dad cab [rolling on the floor laughing emoji]”
Another penned: “Why are all of these mums and dads not normal people who you find in the high street? They are all so made up and drive fancy cars. It doesn't feel authentic”
A third said: “Why are they all posh people? Since when do your average 21 year olds drive such swanky cars?”
Davina, 55, has previously spoken about having the idea for the show and pitching it as “Midlife Love Island” to ITV commissioning Editor Amanda Starvi.
She explained: "It’s my fault that it got called Midlife Love Island – that’s what I called it in an email to Amanda. I’ve been trying to burn that name ever since!
"I wrote out five bios of friends of mine – it was hilarious, I really went to town. But Amanda was really sweet, she got back to me quickly and said, ‘We’re not going to do that!
"She said, 'I'm looking at another format, and I'll keep you posted.' We stayed in touch and then I heard that we got the show. I just can’t believe it’s happened because I really do believe in it so much."
She revealed that while there shouldn’t be any moments that will scar their children for life (there are no cameras in the bedroom) and wanted the programme to be about more than sex and “really mean” something.
“For me personally speaking, I’d rather watch the hint of love and a moment of tenderness – that’s so exciting. Jumping into bed and shagging, once you’ve seen it, it doesn’t mean anything. This really means something – when you see people falling in love.”
