Real reason Ellie Leach won Strictly revealed – and its thanks to Sam Thompson

Ahead of Saturday night's Strictly Come Dancing final, one avid TV watcher correctly predicted that Ellie Leach would win the show, as they pointed out a bizarre pattern between Strictly and I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, TV critic Ian Hyland shared their prediction, writing: "Random fact ahead of tonight’s #StrictlyFinal.

"Since McFly’s double triumph in 2011, whenever a man has won I’m A Celeb a woman has won Strictly – and whenever a woman has won I’m A Celeb a man has won Strictly.

"So yeah, thanks to Sam Thompson, Ellie is winning tonight."

And as former Coronation Street star Ellie lifted the Glitterball Trophy, it seemed that Ian's prediction was indeed correct.

However, not everyone was pleased with the results, with some viewers arguing that Layton Williams should have been the one to win this year's Strictly.

After the results were announced, one upset fan wrote: "Congrats ellie but we all know Layton should have won." While another asked: "Congrats ellie but how has Layton not done that? #StrictlyFinal."

"Layton should have won! Deffo was robbed," added a third, while a fourth argued that Layton was the show's "most talented contestant."

Meanwhile, Sam Thompson's I'm A Celeb win proved rather less divisive, with one viewer writing: ""SAM’S THE KING OF THE JUNGLE!!!! MOST DESERVING WINNER EVER!!! #ImACeleb."

"Sam has got to be one of the most worthy winners that I’m a celeb has ever had, truly wholesome content this year #ImACeleb," added a second.

And a third penned: "Thank you Great Britain for embracing someone who is different but someone who is also brilliant! Sam Thompson deservedly is the King of the Jungle. #ImACelebrityGetMeOutOfHere #ImACelebrity #ImACeleb."

Both winners appeared on Monday's (18 December) This Morning, where they were joined by Ellie's professional dance partner Vito Coppola, as the trio reminisced on their individual experiences.

While chatting to hosts Craig Doyle and Josie Gibson – who was also one of Sam's camp mates but finished in fourth place – he, Ellie and Vito talked about their show memorabilia.

As Ellie gushed about receiving her very own Strictly Glitterball trophy, which she brought on the show with her, Sam blurted out that he wasn't actually able to keep anything from his I'm A Celeb win.

Sam's reaction to Ellie's Glitterball led Josie to ask the 31 year old where his crown was, to which he said: "I didn't get to keep anything! They wouldn't let me keep anything!"

"I had to give the sceptre back," he continued, before adding that he "really wanted to bring it through airport security" because of how big it is.
