The Reckoning viewers feel ‘sick’ after ‘difficult’ watch of cub scout victim

The Reckoning official trailer

Many people watching The Reckoning were left feeling sick after harrowing scenes were shown on the BBC drama on Monday evening.

The four-part series follows Jimmy Savile’s (played by Steve Coogan) crimes and how the disgraced presenter used his powerful connections to conceal what he was doing.

In the latest episode, people watched the introduction of his BBC One show Jim’ll Fix It, where children would write in requesting the presenter grant a wish.

However, one recreated scene which featured victim cub scout victim Kevin Cook, was too much for viewers to handle.

It wasn’t long before people watching took to social media to share their strong thoughts about the terrifying ordeal.

@SammiBews reeled: “Steve Coogan as Jimmy Savile what an actor but each episode literally makes me feel sick @BBCNews Shame on you!!! “

@kategas1973 tweeted: “Watched about 15 minutes of #TheReckoning and had to turn over… just so uncomfortable to watch. Coogan has literally embodied him… a pure acting masterclass…”

During the scene, viewers saw a group of Boy Scouts appear on the show as Savile told the group he couldn’t give them all an individual badge but had a huge group one for them to share.

When the cameras stopped rolling, Savile lured the nine-year-old into his dressing room by promising he’d give him his own badge.

In the episode, watchers saw the disgraced presenter tell the young boy what had happened in the room was their “secret” as he persuaded him not to tell his mother.

Speaking about the BBC drama, victim Kevin, now in his 50s, told The Mirror: “When I watched the show, it was horrifying. It’s so realistic, I was shaking and sweating. It was like watching Savile himself – it was almost like he had come back from the dead.

“I know lots of people will watch this drama and I hope it means more people will be encouraged to come forward, to share their stories and get help.

“I want people to know that just telling someone can make a difference. It doesn’t have to be the police or authorities, it can be a friend.”

The Reckoning continues Tuesday on BBC One from 9pm
