Tyler West reveals surprise reason hes rooting for Ellie and Vito to win BBC Strictly
Tyler West is backing Ellie Leach to win this year’s Strictly – as his mum is “in love” with her professional dance partner Vito Coppola.
DJ and TV presenter Tyler, who starred in last year’s season of the hit BBC dance show, exclusively told OK! that he had “so much love” for all this series’ contestants as he knew what they had been going through. But the 27 year old added there was a personal reason why he was rooting for Coronation Street star Ellie, 22, and her Italian pro partner Vito, 31.
When asked who he wanted to win Strictly this time round, he told us: “My mum is in love with Vito so if I don’t say Vito and Ellie…They are really amazing.
“We went to go and watch the show the other week and it was really nostalgic. But I feel like this year the competition genuinely is the tightest it’s been and I don’t know who’s going to take it.
“I literally have so much love for every single one of them, all the people on that show. I know what they have to go through. But Ellie and Vito are doing amazing.”
However, Kiss FM presenter Tyler went on to say that he was also a massive fan of Bad Education actor Layton Williams, 29.
He added: “I love watching Layton dance, I’m obsessed with that guy. It’s going to be a wicked final for sure.”
Earlier this year, Tyler went public with his relationship with EastEnders actress Molly Rainford. The pair met while both appearing on Strictly last year and were said to have been inseparable from January when they started to grow closer while performing on the show’s live tour.
Tyler told us he missed being on Strictly but added: “It’s something that was such a special moment. But I guess if you were to do it all the time it wouldn’t be that special – plus I won more than the Glitterball.”
The DJ went on to say he and Molly still practise dancing together and they still ‘loved it’. He also said he had arranged a surprise birthday party for Molly ahead of her turning 23 earlier this week but added that they were so busy it was hard to find time to spend together.
He added: “Literally our schedules are the worst thing to piece together. So if I get to see her at Christmas it’s a blessing, I guess!”
The pair made their first public appearance as a couple in June but Tyler had talked about their relationship in March when Molly’s new starring role in EastEnders was announced.
Speaking on Lorraine about his pride at her landing a high-profile soap role, he said: "I tell you what, it's the hardest secret I've ever had to keep in my life. It was, genuinely!"
He continued: “I'm a very proud boyfriend today, Lorraine, a very proud boyfriend.”
