Aberfan stabbing: Attacker 'lay in wait' for heavily-pregnant mum, 29, on school run before 'knifing her five times' | The Sun

AN attacker allegedly lay in wait for a heavily-pregnant mum on the school run in Aberfan before knifing her five times, it has been claimed.

Cops swarmed the south Wales town after the horror attack at 9.10am yesterday morning.

Seven hours later at least ten armed officers swooped on a house near Aberfan and took a 28-year-old man into custody.

The mum-of-two, 29, is under police guard in hospital as doctors monitor the health of her unborn baby due at Christmas.

Now police are investigating claims the attacker was "lying in wait" for the mum as she returned from dropping off her children at primary school, The Times reports.

Local mum Petra Thomas told the newspaper: "He just came out of nowhere and stabbed her before running off to a car."

"She is a very good mother, she is looking after the children very well."

Video footage showed a man being led away by officers yesterday afternoon around 1.5miles from the crime scene.

In a press conference yesterday evening, Chief Inspector Miles said: "I appreciate there will be a real sense of shock to the community where the attack happened in broad daylight."

He has described the stabbing as a "targeted attack".

The arrested man is known to the victim, who remains in hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

Four local schools and a childcare centre locked down while cops scrambled to find the suspect.
