A dentist has been killed in a riding accident while training for an upcoming equestrian event in Brazil.

Lídia Pires, 32, was performing a practice run at a stud farm when she pulled the horse’s reins too hard and lost her balance. She crashed to the ground and the horse fell on top of her, witnesses said.

Pires went into cardiac arrest as she was being rushed to the local hospital in the town of Lago Oeste, 14 miles outside Brasilia.

The driver flagged down a firetruck and firefighters attempted to revive her but declared her dead at the scene.

She leaves behind her police officer husband who was taken to hospital after learning the news. Pires’ death comes just five months after her mother died.
