Chaos at Heathrow after Terminal 4 is evacuated over ‘suspicious package’ – with scores of flights delayed

  • Armed police were called to the airport but stood down after 20 minutes 

Scores of flights were delayed and crowds of passengers were evacuated after a bomb scare at Heathrow Airport this morning.

Armed police were scrambled to Terminal 4 amid concerns over a ‘suspicious package’.

Footage shows a number of police cars outside the terminal, while emergency crews gather near the entrance.

Several dozen travellers are also seen waiting outside having been evacuated from the main building. 

The Metropolitan Police said the operation was stood down ‘very quickly’, but the incident, which is understood to have lasted around 20 minutes, sparked significant disruption for many.

Flight data shows how a host of departures were late taking off, while Transport for London confirmed the terminal’s underground station was also briefly closed during the investigation.

All airport operations are now running as normal, a spokesman for the airport said.
