A FIRE killed five and left one person missing in Hounslow, London last night.

At around 10:26pm last night, a blaze took hold of Channel Close, killing five members of the same family, the Met Police has said.

MP Ruth Cadbury, has expressed her heartbreak at this tragedy in her constituency as she said: "I am devastated to learn this morning that 5 people, including children, died in a fire in a house in Hounslow last night.

“My thoughts are with their family, friends neighbours.”

One person is reportedly still missing following the devastating blaze.

    What caused the fire?

    Currently, officials have not provided an official cause for the fire that killed five family members on Sunday.

    However, cops said they are keeping an “open mind as to the cause of the fire.”

    During a press conference this morning, officials told reporters that three of the deceased are children.

    One person still missing

    Speaking to reporters today, Chief Supt Sean Wilson confirmed that one person remains unaccounted for.

    “Despite the lifesaving efforts of all those attending I’m very sorry to inform you all five people have lost their lives in this fire," he said.

    “Sadly, we believe that three of those that died are children.

    “There is at least one other person, an adult, who remains unaccounted for.

    “This is truly a terrible incident the loss of so many lives will cause unimaginable distress to families, friends and communities of all those involved.

    “I know that people across the country are shocked and saddened by this terrible event last night.

    “Everyone will want to know why this tragedy occurred.

    “We will be working tirelessly with our colleagues at the London Fire Brigade to find those answers.“At this time we have an open mind as to the cause of the fire. I would ask people not to add to that uncertainty by speculating.”

    Police were called at about 10.30pm on Sunday to reports of a fire at a residential address in Channel Close, Hounslow, TW5.

    The bodies of five people were found inside the property and a sixth person is currently unaccounted for.

    Mr Wilson, when asked if he could rule out fireworks as a possible cause of the fatal blaze, told PA: "At this stage, this is being investigated both by ourselves and specialist fire officers.

    "I am not ruling anything out, I don't think we are in a position to do that.

    "We keep an open mind, it is such an early stage and there is an awful lot of work to be done."

    Neighbours evacuated – police appeal for information

    Police say nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution following the fire.

    Enquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing. At this early stage in the investigation there have been no arrests.

    Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 and give reference 6845/12NOV.

    Hounslow fire – what we know so far

    Police were called at about 10.30pm on Sunday to reports of a fire at a residential address in Channel Close, Hounslow, TW5.

    Officers attended alongside the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service (LAS).

    The bodies of five people were found inside the property and a sixth person is currently unaccounted for. It is believed that all five are members of the same family.

    One man left the house prior to the arrival of emergency services. He was taken to hospital by LAS. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

    Chief Superintendent Sean Wilson, responsible for policing in Hounslow, said: “My thoughts are with the loved ones of those who very sadly lost their lives in this tragic incident.
